I'm Back And Trying To Reorganize

I mentioned a while back that I was moving. At least I think I did. If not I am moving. One of the reasons that I am moving is so that I have a proper place for my kids. Yep in case you missed I have to wonderful children. Well now that I am back I have the task of getting moved, getting the kids registered in a new school, and getting settled in. I will be a little farther from work but closer to my family so there is some upside.

Since I am going to be moving I decided it would be a great time to get the kids and my stuff reorganized. I have started sorting through clothes, papers, books, dishes, and everything else to cull out what isn't needed. Not only that necessity warrants a bit of downsizing as space is more of a premium in the new digs.

I pretty much have my stuff done now and I am moving on to the kid's things. Between the old stuff and the new stuff I have been purchasing for school it hasn't been easy. I have been using my Dymo label maker and labeling the crap out of things. I went and bought storage bins, shelving, different hangers and such to help with the organization.

I've also been trying to get my daughter a little more organized for school this year. She has had a bit of a problem in the past with keeping her things organized. This has caused a few problems with late and lost assignments. Not good. I have been getting her set up with folders for each class labeled with nice color labels. I have her a little work area set up with labeled areas for different assignments. Things are coming along nicely.

Surprisingly enough both kids seem to be looking forward to school. I know it might sound funny but I have always enjoyed school and looked forward to it toward the end of summer as well. I know several weeks before I would start organizing things. Going through the book bag and cleaning it out. All in preparation for the first day.

Now that I have started to get a handle on the personal side of life I REALLY need to get to organizing the work side of life a bit. I have not been blogging very regularly and miss all of the interaction with all of you. I really have been working trying to get back to blogging more since February and it has just been tough. The affiliate marketing has been going well, but that takes so little time now compared to blogging that I have just let this fall by the wayside.

Okay well that is enough rambling...besides I have to use the facilities...

Going On Vacation

Well I just wanted to let everyone know I am going to be taking a little vacation. Things for me are going well and I have a few extra dollars lying around so I'm going to help the sluggish economy and spend them. Anyway I hope you are all doing well making money online. I will hopefully be returning in a couple of weeks, not sure when, and I will work on getting back to posting. This year has been crazy. If I was the type of person that just spilled my life out online I would tell you about it. I'm not though so...

I am in the process of moving...I've made some wonderful new friends...Just enjoying life

New Blog Takes A Shot At Me

Okay the other day I posted about the free premium UBD Moneymaker wordpress theme. In that article I mentioned a blog that was using the theme and linked to it. The blog was En Fuego Blogger dot com the article was I Didn't Start El Fuego, I Just Got Burned. Well I noticed yesterday evening a link back from that blog and stopped by to check it out. Well the guy takes a shot at me. I get knocked for my long URL, I know but what can I say, and questioned whether or not I actually earned close to $1500 in January. Well the long URL will most likely stay for the time being and yes I actually did earn that amount of money.

Anyway...Like I said the blog looks very new, only 3 articles. The theme looks great but something just doesn't seem quite right on the lower part of the sidebar. I read through the article that mentioned me and En Fuego blogger talks about the purpose of the blog. He is looking to put into practice what the meta-bloggers say will make a successful blog. I like his line about "I tried making money online and all I got was this stupid t-shirt." Very funny. He is wanting to judge based on results whether or not all the advice floating around is actually worth diddly. Well I must say I wish him the best, and thank him for the link and constructive criticism. Check out the blog and let me know, and him as well, whether or not you think the blog will really be as his name states, En Fuego? Or will it simply be a wisp of smoke from the ash heap of failed blogs?

Blogging At The Intersection Of Preparation And Opportunity

Milton Berle said that, "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door." Learning, seeking, taking calculated risks, these are all about creating opportunity and getting yourself prepared. I am sure you have probably heard they saying, "I would rather be lucky than good." I wholeheartedly disagree. The difference between a lucky person and an unlucky one almost always comes down to preparation and attitude.

I frequently hear people that aren’t successful saying about those that are, "they are just lucky." Successful people aren’t just "lucky." They were prepared and in the right mindset when opportunity presented itself. A big part of this is associating with and befriending successful people you can learn how to be prepared when your opportunity comes.

I have seen people with tons of potential and countless opportunities waste it all because of poor decisions in picking their relationships. I have watched as person very close to me destroyed our relationship for a fleeting moment of fun with new friends. I have seen the hurt in her eyes, heard the regret in her voice, as she wished that time could be reversed and different roads traveled. Unfortunately the past cannot be undone, but mistakes in it can be learned from.

Trust me I know how easy to get caught up into a highly social unproductive lifestyle. It feeds on itself until you don't even realize how non-productive you really are. I would encourage you to examine your relationships and choices and ask yourself if they are beneficial and constructive. Honestly ask, Do they make you a better person? If not end it. I know that sounds harsh but in the end it will do you good.

Find people that encourage you, make you better, and inspire you to be better - to be great. Seek out people of like mind, with similar ideals and goals. Develop relationships with people of high moral character that have lofty goals. Find risk-takers, not reckless individuals, as you will find that taking more calculated risks, and through focused action "luck," that intersection of preparation and opportunity, will find you.

Have A BlueDial Father's Day

I don't know about you guys but I love watches. The watch you are wearing can be a statement about who you are as a person. For any of you reading that just might be purchasing a father's day present for me skip the silk tie and head for a watch instead.

My favorite online watch retailer is BlueDial.com. They have a huge selection of watches and more options and brands than you will find in any store. I was just browsing around the site shopping for a present for a friend and ran across a beautiful ladies watch. It was the Ladies Coutura Mother of Pearl with Diamonds watch. It is priced pretty good and while not quite as "prestigious" as a few other brands it is a beautiful watch and would make a great lower cost gift alternative.

They sell only genuine and authentic watches of the highest quality by Movado, ESQ, Bulova, Citizen, and Seiko watches - each guaranteed - with free sizing and 2nd day shipping. They are still guaranteeing delivery by Father's Day so you still have time to shop for your dad.

Little Vacation Coming Up!

I love to get away, even if it is only for a few days. Now that summer has finally arrived and the kids are finishing up the last days of the school year I figured it was time to pack up and have fun. Not only that my daughter's birthday is coming up, the big 11!(gasp..I'm getting old ;-( ), and I want to do something special.

I love vacationing with my kids. It means for at least a brief time I get to act like one!! I think that too many parents try and plan a vacation they would like and then throw in a few things for the kids here and there. Big mistake! Instead plan for the kids and then throw in a few things here and there for yourself. That way you can act like a kid have a ton of fun and forget about the stress and worry of all the "adult" responsibilities for a while. You know, actually take a vacation.

We are going to be heading up to Chula Vista Theme Resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. This is by far and away my favorite resort in the Dells area. There are bigger water parks like Kalahari, but none offer the combination of resort, waterpark, golf, and grounds like Chula Vista. The resort is nestled along the Wisconsin river and you can actually catch all the boat attractions right from a pier on the resort grounds. We have stayed there quite a few times before and just love it. Probably one of the best options, and one that really differentiates the resort, is their All-Inclusive option. While not quite as nice as what you get in the Caribbean or Mexico, gratuity and one restaurant are not included, it is one of the best overall deals I have found in the Midwest. The kids love it because they can get snacks. I love it because I can get snacks and adult libations :). It is so nice that once you get on the resort grounds you really don't have to spend money. They have a large indoor waterpark in addition to the park outside. There is a great mini-golf course, beautiful 18 hole course, scenic walking trails, spa, adults only hot tub area outside that has a beautiful 2 story fireplace and spa-side beverages. I have to say that I am sooooo looking forward to fun and relaxation with the kids next weekend.

I think later in the summer we may head over to New Jersey. I know you are probably wondering, "Why New Jersey?" Well Wildwood, New Jersey is the home of Morey’s Piers a top 25 amusement park and voted one of the best Things to do in New Jersey. Morey's Piers operates three amusement piers and two beachfront waterparks that are located on the Boardwalk and Beachfront. It is a very fun and beautiful area and we have been there before as well. They are also running a Disney concert series in July that my daughter, and son, would love. The Radio Disney Summer Concert Series finale with Raven-Symone from Disney Channel’s “That’s so Raven” is going to be there at the end of July. I don't have a set place to stay when we head to that area but you can usually find some great deals on the Internet for Wildwood NJ motels.

I am really looking forward to my coming vacations and the entire summer season in general. Next to the fall this is my favorite time of the year. I hope you are taking time this summer to laugh, have fun, and really "live" with your spouse and kids. In the end they are really the most important things.

Just Some Rambling...

I just wanted to say a BIG THANKS to all of the folks still taking some time to stop by and read a bit here and at my other blog Cman's Cognitive Content. After starting out the year with a bang earning almost $1500 in January from this blog and close to $500 from Cman's Cognitive Content, the wheels fell off. I got very sick for about 2 weeks and that was the start of the snowball. Now here it is almost June and I feel like I haven't done any "real" blogging in forever.

My dad is recovering from triple bypass surgery and is due to go home tomorrow, and I am hoping his recovery is the light at the end of the "crazy times" tunnel. Between my job, my family, my personal time (you have to always maintain that!), and all of the issues that arose blogging just didn't get the attention it deserved. I was able to maintain my affiliate marketing as that is quite a bit more hands off than blogging and certainly doesn't require the time.

I have to admit that I have missed blogging. honestly it probably would have been a good outlet at times for some of the gook (the technical term) that was inhabiting the space between my ears. For example while a great friend of mine, whom I must apologize to for my lack of correspondence, used her blog for a bit of much needed venting. Lori over at A Cowboy's Wife dot com has been going through a bit herself and let her feelings be known. She comes through so genuine and that is what has made her blogs so popular. I wish I had a bit more of that in me.

Well...I just wanted to say hello, thanks, and to just blog to get back the game...enough rambling for now.

Make Some Extra Money Using Your Credit Cards

I am all about making the most money and making that money work for me and in turn make me the most money. The less I have to do and the more my money can do for me the better. That is my approach to credit cards if used properly are a very useful, and sometimes, necessary part of life. Credit has become so easily attainable that it has become a large problem for a large amount of people, we are seeing the results of that in the mortgage market now. What do I mean by that?

Don't carry a balance! Unless there is a legit emergency you should never carry an interest accruing balance on your credit card. Don't throw money down the drain, which is essentially what you are doing if you are paying interest on your gas, food, gadgets, or whatever else you put on there. If you don't have the money don't charge it. If you must charge it don't charge so much that you can't pay it off. If you won't be able to pay it off don't buy it, again unless it is a legit emergency.

If you have a balance currently then take advantage of interest free credit cards and balance transfers. This allows you a bit of extra time to pay down a balance. Don't use the interest free rate and period as an excuse to charge more or to only pay the minimum. This only works against you. Pay as much as you can and eliminate the debt before the intro low rate expires.

If you are brave and disciplined enough you can leverage your credit as a money making tool instead of having it be a drain. I had a friend of mine that explained this practice to me and how he was making literally $1000's per year off of his credit cards. I started doing what he told me and now I am making $1000's extra per year off the credit card companies. Let me explain.

If you are like me you probably get tons of credit offers in the mail all with varying intro rates and periods. I only look at the interest free offers and ones that tend to be over 6 months work the best with 3 months really being the minimum. Okay here is the trick. You can leverage your credit line for the 0% period to earn you interest via some other medium. I don't recommend the stock market as this is a bit too much risk exposure. I recommend high interest, short term CD's, or high interest money markets(paypal actually is a pretty good choice). Okay here is an example. Say you have an offer for a 0% card. You apply and get approved for a $10,000 limit with a 12 month intro period. I would leverage $8000 of that available balance and place it into a 9 month CD or a money market earning say 5%. You would earn approximately $300 dollars. Do this each year with about $40 - $50,000(my friend does more) and earn usually no less than $2000 extra per year. All for doing pretty much nothing and all in essence free. You can leverage this even further if the card is a perks card.

Let your credit be a useful tool and not a burden. Don't spend and use credit where you can't afford to. Stop wasting money padding some companies bank account and let your credit work for you not against you. Credit cards when used properly are great useful and necessary tools. Well there you go that is what I think about credit cards.

I've Said It Before But...Protect Your Identity

An identity theft incident just last week with a family member brought this issue to my mind again. As someone who is very "plugged-in" I am constantly monitoring my credit and updating my on and off line security measures. ConsumerAffairs.com has reported that for the seventh year in a row, identity theft tops the Federal Trade Commission's complaint list, accounting for 36 percent of the 674,354 complaints received between January 1 and December 31, 2006.

As bloggers and affiliate marketers we are all vulnerable to online identity theft. If you haven't yet taken steps to protect your identity I recommend you do so. If you are actively monitoring your accounts you still might want to consider a service like life lock or similar. These charge a small fee to protect, monitor, and guarantee your identity against theft. If you personally or you know someone who has been a victim of identity theft you know the damage and cost associated with it.

Time Spike - A Phenomenal Debut Novel By Marilyn Kosmatka

If you like alternate history, fantasy, science fiction, or just plain good fiction, you should check out Time Spike by Marilyn Kosmatka & Eric Flint. Marilyn is the mother of a friend of mine Ted Kosmaka, another phenomenal writer. This is her debut novel and based on reviews and sales I certainly don't think it will be her last.

Buy it. Read it. You will love it. Keep your eyes open for more from Marilyn Kosmatka and I am confident you will see a debut novel from Ted Kosmatka in the very near future as well. For some of Ted Kosmatka's award winning short stories check out his website TedKosmatka.com. Ted has had his short stories published around the world in several different languages. One of his most recent stories The Prophet of Flores has been included in several of the Year's Best Science Fiction anthologies, and very well could earn Ted Kosmatka a Nebula Nomination and win.

Returning To Blogging After A Temporary Hiatus

Just in case you may not have noticed since January postings have gotten a little thin around here. Well I decided to devote more time to areas of my life that I felt were more important and required more time and attention than they were getting. Just like when money is tight and you look at your budget to cut unnecessary expenses, so I did with my time budget. Blogging time was just one of the areas I targeted in my time budget realignment.

Now that things are finally settling down I am slowly reapportioning my time budget and working more time back over to my blogging. Once aspect of this is to start reading a bit more again and find out what has been going on during the time I just wasn't paying attention. I came across a very appropriate article on Blogging Tips. The article was written by Jake Pitt of JakePitt.com. Gettin’ Back in the Game: Bringin’ Your Blog Back to Life after Goin’ MIA was the name of the article and hopefully you can see how it relates with little to no explanation from me. Check the article out and then head over to JakePitt.com, the self proclaimed "worst nightmare" of John Chow, and read some of the Jake's biting commentary. Jake Pitt also seems to have a beef with some shoe guy he calls “Fat Boy Slim”.

Again, No I Am NOT Quitting

I have continued to receive a lot of emails questioning whether or not I am quitting and just letting my blogs die. The answer is an unequivocal NO. I have been extremely busy with family, personal, and work related matters and had to put some things aside for a while. I decided blogging was one of the things I could pause so that I could devote time to what really matters in life, at least in mine. I am hoping to get back in the game soon and get back to blogging. Thank you all for your inquiries and concerns. Maybe this is the start, or maybe a few more days, but I will be back and "better than ever."

PPP Script Causing Template Problems

Some of you may have noticed that right before the page finishes loading and the PPP script is ran two "divider" bars or something are placed at the top. I have contacted PPP about this and gave them the URL for the sight a long with a description of the problem. Hopefully this can be resolved shortly and the sight can back to normal. I know this a short and quick post, but all I have time for at the moment. I am working my way back to a "normal" schedule and hope to be back blogging regularly again very shortly. Thank you all for your prayers, kind emails and inquiries into where I've been and if I am ok. It means a lot. I am doing fine. I have just had TON of other things come up lately and have had to devote much of my time and energy elsewhere. I "think" I am getting back to normal and will get rolling again here very soon.

Friends, Beer, & UFC 82

Since I have been feeling better I decided to head out Saturday and watch UFC 82. I was really only interested in the Silva Vs. Henderson fight. For those of you that don't know the fight was a unification fight for the UFC and Pride middleweight belts. Silva has pretty much walked through the middleweight division of the UFC and Henderson has ruled the Pride middleweight division for a while as well. I am glad that the two major MMA associations are finally doing these unification bouts. UFC is pretty much the undisputed MMA king but there are some great fighters in Pride as well.

I know there are a lot of people that think MMA fighting is to graphic and extreme. To those people I say go home and watch WWE soap opera "wrestling." I have always enjoyed watching the skill and strategy that goes into a good boxing match as well as a good wrestling match. Combining these two types of fighting is great. There are rules, it isn't no holds barred, and they have come a long way in how the refs and doctors manage the fights and protect the fighters. I have to say MMA has probably become my favorite PPV event sport to watch. Boxing doesn't have a big draw anymore and there really hasn't been a good fun to watch heavyweight in quite a while.

I went over the to the Buffalo Wild Wings around the corner from my house to watch the fight. They were the closest that was running the PPV event, and I had a few friends that I knew would be there. I got there around 9:15 had a few "lite" beers and just chilled watching the prelim fights. After a bit a few friends showed up and we ordered some wings, and of course some more beers. I am not a big beer drinker as I pretty much prefer mixed drinks. I have been drinking more beer as of late since a few friends started their own brewery here in Chicago. It has started me on a bit of a beer tasting kick. I keep trying new beers just to see if I can really taste the difference and the nuances in each beer. I can sometimes but after a couple not so much.

Anyway, so we are sitting there watching the fight and about every 15 minutes or so the pop up this little graph showing the tracking of text votes for either Silva or Henderson. We got on this discussion about how almost every game show, sporting event, reality show, and even just normal TV, are starting this whole text messaging thing. Send your text vote for this, text your pick for a chance to win, and text this word for exclusive "show" content. I have to admit I don't really get the whole text craze thing. Don't get me wrong I have entered a few contests via text, and communicate quite often with text messaging I just don't get the craze. To me for the most part it is much quicker and easier to just make the phone call and in 1 minute I'm done. Instead I see people spend 30 minutes texting and they might type a whole 5 sentences. Not very productive if you ask me. Although I know there are times when I don't feel like talking and texting is just easier.

Anyway there is was this other survey where you text the word beer to 247365. Then there are 10 text-and-reply questions in the mobile survey. Of course each one has "standard text messaging rates." Everyone who answers all 10 questions will be entered for a chance to win a $300 Amazon gift card. The survey is being presented to a small number of participants, so the odds of winning are about 1500 to 1. Considering the odds of bowling a 300 game is 11,500 to 1 and the odds of getting a hole in one is 5000 to 1, that's pretty good. Not bad odds and if you are into texting and have unlimited messages or don't mind the cost I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to enter.

Starting To Get Caught Up

After being sick for most of the last two weeks I am finally starting to get caught up on things. Not only were my online interests suffering but my offline endeavors had been fairly neglected as well. Now that I am feeling better, well relatively, I have been scrambling trying to get back on track.

I can hopefully take it easy this weekend a bit and be back to a more normal schedule starting next week. It is hard to believe that the month of February is almost over. I feel like I have missed the whole month. Simply put I look at February as a singularly unproductive month on my part. It pretty much crosses all boundaries too. Not just online but offline, personal fitness, hobbies, self-improvement...pretty much everything just took a tank this month.

Obviously I was sick and that played a big part, but that really can't be where all the blame starts and stops. I am not very happy with me as a person this month. Just couldn't get going and then being sick certainly didn't help and then it seemed like all the motivation and drive just left. Like I said, I am feeling better and am starting to get to my old self. I am looking forward to a great March.

I'm Still Sick

I am still sick with this nasty combination of flu and cold. I thought I was getting better, but I am still coughing like crazy and not really able to eat much without feeling awful. Combine this with a TON of other things going on and you can all see the result on my blogging time.

After my big push for $1500 in January, February has been a bit of down month. Pretty much everything has suffered all around, from earnings to posts. I am starting to feel better and hopefully this last week I can start getting back to a more normal schedule.

Take A Romantic Getaway And Take A Break From Blogging

One of my most memorable and romantic vacations was to the Poconos region. While the family was there the resort we were staying at was running several day long New York city tours that included breakfast, lunch, dinner, round trip transportation, and all admissions to the NY area attractions the tour was going to. The price for the tour was a low 60$. The whole family went, My wife, daughter, and I, my parents, my grandmother, and my sister and brother-in-law.

We saw sooo many cool sites around the city. It was a very fun and romantic day with my wife. Yeah other family were along but my wife and I had a blast. It was a day crammed with awe inspiring moments, tearful memories, and national pride. We visited Wall St., Central Park, Manhattan shopping, Broadway, and the Statue Of Liberty and Ellis Island. My only regret about this wonderful tour was that it was only one day. I am really looking forward to getting back and spending some more time in NY. It was one of the best sightseeing tours I have ever done.

I've Been Extremely Sick - It SUCKS

Sorry to you all that I haven't been around or posting lately. I have been extremely sick since Saturday. It started out as what I thought was a simple cold and ended up being a very nasty flu. I have been laid up for several days and have not felt like getting on the computer. In fact, I haven't really felt like doing much except laying on the couch or in bed. I am starting to feel better today and can hopefully return to work and to blogging tomorrow.
