Blogging General Connecting With His Soldiers

Major General Michael Oates has started blogging as a way to connect better with his troops and their families. He blogs in a simple questioning style and is really trying to spur discussions that can help bring about positive results and changes for the soldiers he commands.
Welcome to Task Force Mountain. This website is dedicated to giving the Soldiers of Task Force Mountain, their families and friends, the news media and anyone interested a view of our world in Iraq. Climb to Glory!
    taskforcemountain.com
The Task Force Mountain Sound Off was started by the General as a way to really connect better with the soldiers he commands and give them a medium in which they can feel more comfortable voicing their opinions. His decision is another example of the power of blogs and how they are infiltrating so many areas.
Fundamentally what I'm doing is not new. What I'm doing is communicating with my soldiers. What's new is the medium in which we're communicating.

    Ubercool Ideas To Reinvent America

Regardless of your political leanings it is hard to argue against the fact that America is in a bit of turmoil economically at the moment. Whether you feel it is all Bush's fault, hope Obama will change your situation, or think one or the other is good, bad, or ugly, you probably feel like something needs to be done.

I came across an article this morning Reinventing America by a gentleman named Michael Tchong. It is very long article, but he touches on everything from values and morals to government simplification. What I really liked about the article was the fact that not only does Michael talk about what he feels is wrong he gives his ideas and recommendations about what to do and how to do it. According to his figures in the article he believes that following his recommendations would save $1.3 trillion.
The $1.3 trillion saved would entirely offset the current budget deficit, while providing a $100 billion surplus.
He has recommendations ranging from metric system conversion to requiring ethics education in schools. While I don't agree with all of Michael's points and recommendations, he is very compelling. If you are interested in politics in any way you should check out the article. What are your ideas about reinventing America?

    Extreme Cold Causes Shrinkage

Due to the extreme cold my desire to do anything productive outside of my home has shrunk to the point of pretty much disappearing. With temps at -18 and wind chills close to -50 being outside even just to go from house to car is a painful experience. Even with layers of clothes and no skin exposure the cold is still biting.

The car doesn't like it either. My car has never really like the cold that much and was very cranky this morning. I eventually got it convinced to take me to work and we both survived the frigid morning. I have all weather tires on the car, but they are high performance tires and not really for weather this cold. They are very hard in this weather and the traction is pretty bad. Combine that with the rear wheel drive and you can see how much fun driving around up here in the cold and snow can be.

Well I hope all of you out there are staying warm. I just wanted to say a quick hello to all of you this morning. I am trying to get back on a more regular posting schedule and also want to post some more personal posts on this blog. Everyone have a great weekend and stay warm.

WP Remix 2 - Finally WYSIWYG Page Editing For Wordpress

Okay there has been this ongoing "WP snob" thing going on for a very long time. WordPress users tend to look down a bit on those that use the free hosted Blogger platform. I use both and there are things I like about both Blogger and WordPress. I have blogs hosted that use WP and blogs such as this one that are still using Blogger. I have always liked the "almost" WYSIWYG template editor that Blogger has. You can move your stuff around in that or if you are so inclined you can edit the HTML directly. This is a huge plus for folks that are new to blogging.

When I am talking with people that are looking to start a blog and get there feet wet in this domain I usually recommend starting with Blogger. The learning curve is much shorter and allows them to focus initially on content and building community. With the improvements made over the last year in the Blogger realm you really can have a great blog using only Blogger. If you are wanting a broader presence that goes beyond simple blogging then yes WP is for you. WP is a great platform not just for basic blogging but for overall content management. I know quite a few people who started out using WP and got discouraged and either quit or moved over to Blogger. Blogger is simply easier to use for many people. Certainly WP is much more robust, but the lack of easy WYSIWYG template editing and overall flexibility in the templates has been a downside. No longer though!

Introducing the new WP Remix 2.0 WP theme. The new theme is the only one out there that offers a WYSIWYG page editor that allows you to insert and edit your page template directly from a visual editor. WP Remix 2.0 a premium wordpress theme, is completely customizable, quality coded & comes bundled with many layout options that helps everyone create custom websites in minutes saves weeks of time, maintaining top notch standards-compliant quality. The theme really is a complete content management system for your website.

You can get this incredible PREMIUM theme for the incredible price of $75! For this type of theme that is a wonderful price. In addition to the 50 custom static page templates already included they are also including the add-on Magazine Module. Magazine Module is a bundle of 5 different magazine layouts. These are ready to use templates that you can use to start a newspaper or magazine site on any topic. They are also throwing in WP Remix BB. This is a wonderful PHPBB3 template that you can use to create a forum on any topic for your site. While the module doesn't work with the theme directly the template has been designed to match WP Remix theme so you can have overall integrity in the looks for your site. This is really a great theme and CMS for the price and when you add the free bonuses it is even better. This is by far one of the best and easiest to use WP themes out there.

If you are like me and like to make money online they also have an affiliate program. The affiliate program payout has just increased to 50% from 20% at the start of last week. This is an incredible payout and a way to make a quick buck by recommending one of the best WP themes available. They have some great banners you can use and they pay monthly via PayPal.

    Beer Makes A Better Blog

Yep...After a very short meaningless totally anecdotal study, I have decided that beer makes my blog better. How, you ask? Well let me explain.

For those of you who drop by on a regular basis or subscribe to the feed and read that way, you may have noticed that I haven't posted much on many of my blogs recently. Since the middle of November I have been very busy and just have run out of time. I just have waaayyy to many projects going, and have been eliminating superfluous time-consuming ones since the first of the year. I made the mistake of getting too many irons in the fire and have been paying the price. I was on vacation quite a bit from the middle of Nov through the end of the year and just didn't have time to get to everything. I realized I was just spread too thin to really be enjoying the fruits of my endeavors and decided to begin a New Year's pruning.

During the process of looking over data and analyzing projects from my blogs, affiliate marketing, various ebay projects, and others I noticed a loose relationship between blog posting and success and my affiliate work with Mr. Beer. During the times where I have been running Mr. Beer affiliate campaigns my blogging has been more frequent and consistent and my blogs have been more profitable.

Do the two things really have a relationship? Or is it just that while I was running Mr. Beer campaigns I was more focused online in general? I honestly am not sure. I am always running affiliate marketing campaigns and really can't figure out why that the several times a year I really focused on Mr. Beer that the blogging got better as well. I did not find the same type of relationship with my other affiliate campaigns. Also, Mr. Beer, is not my most successful of campaigns.

While not really able to get to the root relationship, if any, I have come to the very scientific conclusion that beer in any form makes a better blog. It doesn't matter if you are blogging about it, blogging while drinking it, blogging after drinking a ton of it(okay well maybe here it might be detrimental), or blogging while selling it, Beer makes for better blogs! That is my story and I'm sticking to it. What are some beer and blogging stories you have? Have you ever blogged drunk?
