Get $25 Of Food For Only $2

How to save money at Restaurants with Restaurant.com Certificates

Restaurant.com is a great way for you to save some money this holiday season. I have been using Restaurant.com for quite a while now and love their prices. Normally you get a $25 certificate for only $10, which is a great deal. As an affiliate partner with Restaurant.com I get information on some of their best deals. I wrote an article on this last October about How To Save Money At Restaurants and talked about how you can stretch your dollar using Restaurant.com certificates and their special promotions. Well I am please to announce that once again Restaurant.com is running their TREATS coupon code promotion. Once you have selected all the certificates you want enter the coupon code TREATS in the checkout box and you will get this incredible deal.

Head on over to Restaurant.com and start searching for restaurants in your area. They have restaurant descriptions and even menus for you to help choose a new restaurant. The cool thing about purchasing a gift certificate from Restaurant is that you don't have to wait for it in the mail you simply print it out. It really is that simple and in just a few minutes you have stretched your dining dollar and have your certificates in hand and ready to use. Once again, after you have selected your certificates and are checking out you will need to enter the promo code TREATS in the promo code box to get this special deal. Again that is coupon code TREATS to the get the best deal Restaurant.com is currently offering. This offer expires on October 31st so you need to hurry to Restaurant.com and get your certificates before it is too late.

Just so you know Restaurant.com offers an unconditional guarantee so you never have to worry about a restaurant honoring the certificates you have purchases. I do want to note that some of the restaurants have minimum purchase amounts for using the certificates so check the details of each offer so you don't get any surprises.

Navigating The Browser Minefield

How many browsers do you use? One? Two? Three or more? For me I really like Firefox and use it most of the time. At work however I have problems with it for certain applications and have to use Explorer. Now Google comes along with their new browser Chrome. The Google Chrome browser is a very fast browser and I really like how each tab is a separate process and if one crashes you don't have to shut down the entire app. When Google Chrome came out I tried it and really liked the speed and tab/process features so I started using it at home as my main browser for most things. I can't use Google Chrome at work though because of security/proxy issues, so I have still been using the Firefox/Explorer combination.

Well now there is a new browser in the mix. It is from Mozilla, the guys behind Firefox, and it is called Minefield. Now the big hype surrounding Google Chrome was that it's new javascript engine was supposedly the fastest around. Well now Mozilla and the new Minefield browser have dropped into the mix claiming that their javascript engine is even faster than that of Google Chrome. Well let me just tell you that after downloading Minefield last friday and putting it through it's paces over the weekend, from my personal perspective it is the fastest browser I have ever used. I put it head to head with Chrome and while both performed really well Minefield consistently beat Chrome in all the tests I through at them.

If you are looking for a blazing fast browser and don't mind that it is technically still in alpha release, although so far I haven't really had any issues during my use, then you really need to download Mozilla Minefield. Since my download on Friday there has already been an update from Mozilla and it seems that Minefield is running even faster today. Although this is really just anectdotal on my part as I haven't yet ran any benchmarking to compare to what I ran over the weekend. I applaud Google's efforts with Chrome and they certainly produced a very good browser that is fast, stable, much more secure than explorer, and has a very nice user interface. However, after all is said and done I am currently using Minefield as my main browser for most of the time. Now if Minefield would take the Google Chrome browser separate tab separate process idea it would be hands down the best browser I have ever used. What browsers do you use? Have you tried either Google Chrome or Mozilla Minefield yet? If so, what is your opinion?

Vote in my browser poll located to the right in the first column...Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Minefield, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Apple Safari?

Mommy Bloggers In The News

I saw this news broadcast on mommy bloggers and thought you all might be interested, and I included the video below. Blogging is a great way for moms to make some extra money from the home. A friend of mine Lori Falcon, who only started blogging about 1 1/2 years ago, has established 4 great blogs and is well on her way to building a little blogging empire and making some great money. She has recently received recognition from Wal-Mart as one of their Eleven Moms and is in the process of getting her makeover. Big congrats to Lori for all of her success. If you haven't visited her blogs here are some links.

Lisa Reviews Dragon Naturally Speaking

If you have never visited the blog Lisa Reviews I think you should head over and check it out. She does really great reviews on a variety of products. She hits everything from software to dolls and tons of stuff in between. Watch her video review below and then click the link to her blog and poke around. You won't be disappointed.

Here is another great video review by Lisa, who coincidently writes the blog Lisa Reviews. She writes about how she can write at 150 words per minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

I think one of the key takeaways from her video, the key insight that is, is that she is able to write a lot more in those spare moments of time that she has while she's doing other things. Sometimes it's great to multitask, but it's even more important to be able to accomplish useful goals in those spare two or three or four minute pockets of time that we all experience throughout the day.

With Dragon NaturallySpeaking a four minute pocket of time can translate into 600 words! That could be three or four e-mails or one or two long blog articles if you're a blogger like Lisa.
Slick

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard
For just $99 you can get started with Dragon NaturallySpeaking and have it trained in running in about seven minutes. The software with version 10 is simply amazing.

I have been writing about Dragon NaturallySpeaking for almost 2 years now. I have been able to type at rates of up to 167 words per minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. That speed was clocked while I was taking a typing test, but even in practical situations when I factor in not only the time it takes to type, but the time that it also takes to edit the words I typed, the end result is that I can still achieve about 100 words a minute, INCLUDING editing time! J

That is extremely fast, and the inclusion of editing time, speaks to the advances that you can see in version 10 as compared to older versions such as version 8 or version 9. It's a lot easier to edit on the fly with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.

So if you're looking for a practical tool for your home office, for your writing or blog work, or even just to keep up with e-mail in your spare time, Dragon NaturallySpeaking can give you the power to type at $150 words per minute for $99!. Heck, I think I paid that much almost for my last keyboard so that I wouldn't pound my fingers to death. :-)

Sincerely,
Brett Bumeter
Softduit Media

PS this article includes about 376 words that I wrote with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. It took me about 3 1/2 minutes to write and edit this article, which is just a little bit better than 100 words per minute and that includes editing time.

Be Careful What You Say - Blogger Lawsuits Increasing

As bloggers we all need to be careful what we say. Obviously bigger blogs with tens of thousands of readers will have greater exposure to legal action. Although any Blogger needs to be careful what they write and remember that they could possibly be opening themselves up for legal action. Here is an interesting news story on the topic...thought you guys might be interested.

Comments Fixed - $50 October Contest Is Back ON !!

First let me say a big thanks to Rita over at Rita's Digest (bloggrrl.com) for dropping me a message telling me that she couldn't for the life of her figure out how to make a comment. At first I thought this strange as I personally had never had any trouble ;) , then I actually tried to make a comment. Obviously I got the same result as Rita. No go with the comments. I started investigating and realized that Google had come out with a new comment format option for blogger. It is an "embedded below post" option. Well this blog had been defaulted to that option and it was not compatible with the current template. I have fixed the problem and the comments are working again the $50 October Contest is back ON !!

One more thanks to Rita for saving the contest!

Obama Wants Your Blogging Profits

Obama wants to support all of us middle class folks in achieving the American dream. Just remember that the American dream tops out at $250,000! After that you are the evil rich and are to be punished for your arrogance and success. Heck I know a lot of small business people that are middle class and far from rich who gross over $250,000 a year and THEY ARE A FAR CRY FROM RICH Mr. Obama.

I'm not simply bashing Obama, and I'm not supporting anyone with this post. I am simply questioning his reasoning for the $250,000 threshold. I know a man who runs a landscape/care taking business with only 3 employees and he grosses almost twice that much. Although after paying the already exorbitant taxes, overhead, and good middle class wages to his employees only gets a solid middle class income himself.

Now Obama would FORCE him to provide health insurance for his employees on top of raising his taxes. This extra burden has the potential to put him out of business or cause him decrease payroll. How is that good for those 4 middle class people?

Just curious and wondering? Let me know your thoughts.

Applaud The Macro - Lament The Micro

I got the title of this post from the last paragraph of an article by Jonathan Stein that I read today. It is just a little commentary by him on bloggers and their view of themselves and blogging in general. It is a very interesting little read. Here is the article in it's entirety...not the little disclaimer at the end from which I got the title to this post.

October Contest - $50 Trick-Or-Treat

It has been a long time since I ran a contest hasn't it? Well just last week I purchased an incredible Halloween costume and so I decided to run a contest that involved it. The contest will be simple and you don't have to be right to win! The contest has two parts and here are the "rules."

Rules:

1. Subscribe to my feed and post a comment with your guess, and feel free to mention what you will or might be for Halloween. It is that simple. You are entered in the contest. If you decide to also post an article mentioning the contest and linking back to this contest post and you get 5 extra entries. It is that simple...each person can get up to 6 entries in the contest.

2. I will also be awarding a bonus prize to the correct guess. In the event that there are multiple correct guesses the person with the most entries wins. If there is still a tie then the person that commented first will win.

3. Contest ends on Friday October 31, 2008 at 4:00 PM Central Daylight Savings Time.

Prizes:

1. The prize for the winning entry will be a Totally Bricked iPhone! JUST KIDDING...

Actually the prize is $35 cash

2. The prize for the correct guess will $15 cash

Not really a prize but I will be posting a "winner" post and will include backlinks to all entries!

Pretty simple and straightforward....

********************************************************************************

Are you planning on dressing up for a Halloween party this year? Are you going to go trick-or-treating dressed up or go out to a party? Guck Foogle - Screw Google - Same Thing Different Words

It is interesting that just recently Jeremy "ShoeMoney" Schoemaker, in his keynote speech at IzeaFest, talked about having a Screw Google Mentality. Now in his recent article about the same topic he reminds people that you must take the remarks within the context of being a successful webmaster.

Basically if people pretended like Google never existed or like they were blacklisting in Google its the best thing they could ever do. This applies from many things Google… From SEO to AdSense. - Shoemoney
Around this time last year when the whole paid link no-follow google PR update issue was big I wrote a satirical viral linking article I titled Guck Foogle - Give Google A Virus. I don't blog for approval from google. I don't blog to increase my PR. I blog for readers and ultimately to make money. My attitude is screw google, and has been for quite a while.

Now the response I got was pretty much as expected as far as the viral marketing goes. I really wasn't looking for that to do anything as the point of the article was satire not actual viral marketing. I did however get an interesting comment about the article. Here is the comment -
This is the kind of idiocy people expect with publishers milking google's system.

First off, it's Google's search engine, not Google itself that f*cked you and everyone living off the High PR so if you have a highly trafficked site you're bound to be unaffected unless you start buying/selling links. I see Google's PR update as a way to restart an already saturated market and people like you start jumping about it talking about a switch. I remind you it's a SEARCH ENGINE. You get hits on how good your SEO is not your PR.

Secondly what good will your post do? Oh I know viral linking. No thanks, I hate pingback/trackback spam especially from money making sites who's out to make money for themselves.

Thirdly, might I remind you that your blog is still working on the Blogger system which is a Google company. Even if your content is hosted on a server that you own they can still kill your site because it's inevitably tied with Google.

Fourthly, revenue from ANY PPC program is highly dependent on your traffic. If 90% of your traffic comes from social networking sites then don't bother. You're only going to get clicking at a rate of about 1/10000 hits.

Fifthly, if you still haven't noticed blogrush is a scam so I suggest dropping it.
Here is my response (just a note I don't get nearly as much traffic from blogrush as I was back then ;)) -
Wow did you miss the point!!!

Okay I know it is a search engine I use everyday. In fact it is my home page. I haven't been f*cked by google the search engine, adwords, gmail, blogger etc... I do believe however that Google is f*cking themselves by f*cking around with everyone's pagerank. They are making PR an insignificant metric in the blogging world. I had a PR3 before moving to my own domain, and now I am unranked, which I don't have a problem with. I am getting more traffic than ever and revenue is higher than ever as well.

I actually get a good amount of hits from google because I have good SEO on this site. I also get quite a few hits from yahoo, ask, snap, and all the rest. Google is only about 25% of total search engine traffic for me.

To your second point. The post is voluntary. Don't like it don't participate. Hell, you don't even have to spend the time commenting. But you did, so the post was effective wasn't it? Now maybe that was the point?

Thirdly I'm getting old but not yet senile so I do know that my blog is still working off the blogger system. I do actually log in about everyday. Thanks for reminding me though, that would be a bad thing to forget.

Fourthly, thanks for stating the obvious. I thought you could make money on PPC ads without traffic or clicks. Damn that is what I've been doing wrong. I'll have to get right on that. Although my CTR is muuuuch higher than 1/10000.

Fifthly, I get about 5 times more traffic a month from Blogrush than I do from Google at absolutely no cost. I guess I missed the scam part. You weren't so obvious on this point as the last one.

Well it has been nice chatting with you. And thanks for commenting. Now maybe you get the point.
The conversation continued with this poor excuse for a response :)
Actually no.
Using your sarcastic comment on my 4th point means your much more of a troll than I am.
Too which I responded, with my usual wit I might add,
Wow and you still don't get it. The point of the post was satirical not literal. Well I do thank you for reading, although based on your last comment you don't read my blog enough, which you should remedy. I do have, just a very tiny bit mind you, a sarcastic bent to my humor.

Again thanks for reading. I have to get back to milking the teet of google. Oh yeah and being a troll. Good thing I sold some beer today, actually a hell of a lot, or I would be in a bad mood. Dang that 66% CTR and 5% STC
This site has been basically blacklisted by google and I have survived. Now granted the site took a hit when I wasn't blogging very regularly but, I have been on a bit of a comeback lately. What is your opinion in this debate? Do you agree with me and Shoe?
