Starting To Get Caught Up

After being sick for most of the last two weeks I am finally starting to get caught up on things. Not only were my online interests suffering but my offline endeavors had been fairly neglected as well. Now that I am feeling better, well relatively, I have been scrambling trying to get back on track.

I can hopefully take it easy this weekend a bit and be back to a more normal schedule starting next week. It is hard to believe that the month of February is almost over. I feel like I have missed the whole month. Simply put I look at February as a singularly unproductive month on my part. It pretty much crosses all boundaries too. Not just online but offline, personal fitness, hobbies, self-improvement...pretty much everything just took a tank this month.

Obviously I was sick and that played a big part, but that really can't be where all the blame starts and stops. I am not very happy with me as a person this month. Just couldn't get going and then being sick certainly didn't help and then it seemed like all the motivation and drive just left. Like I said, I am feeling better and am starting to get to my old self. I am looking forward to a great March.

I'm Still Sick

I am still sick with this nasty combination of flu and cold. I thought I was getting better, but I am still coughing like crazy and not really able to eat much without feeling awful. Combine this with a TON of other things going on and you can all see the result on my blogging time.

After my big push for $1500 in January, February has been a bit of down month. Pretty much everything has suffered all around, from earnings to posts. I am starting to feel better and hopefully this last week I can start getting back to a more normal schedule.

Well I must get on to other things....I hope you all are doing well and earning lots of money.....more later...

Blogger Finally Has Post Scheduling!!!!!

This is some great news for all of you Blogger users out there. Google has finally gotten the message and upgraded the Blogger platform to include post scheduling. Nothing has really changed in the posting interface except that now when you select post options if you enter a future date and time the post is not published immediately (like it illogically was before), but it is instead scheduled to post on the date and time specified. Here are a few pics to show you how to do it and what it looks like.

First pic just shows that I entered a future date and time for this post.

This second pic shows the posts list after I hit publish for the article.

As you can see the post is now shown in the list and is labeled as scheduled. Note also that you can now filter the posts by the scheduled status as well as the usual published and draft.

This is a huge added feature to the blogger package and one that so many users have been waiting for. Now if we could just get a real archive page that would be nice. Oh yeah and fix the dang comment system too. Well I guess we can't get too greedy now huh???

Take A Romantic Getaway And Take A Break From Blogging

One of my most memorable and romantic vacations was to the Poconos region. While the family was there the resort we were staying at was running several day long New York city tours that included breakfast, lunch, dinner, round trip transportation, and all admissions to the NY area attractions the tour was going to. The price for the tour was a low 60$. The whole family went, My wife, daughter, and I, my parents, my grandmother, and my sister and brother-in-law.

We saw sooo many cool sites around the city. It was a very fun and romantic day with my wife. Yeah other family were along but my wife and I had a blast. It was a day crammed with awe inspiring moments, tearful memories, and national pride. We visited Wall St., Central Park, Manhattan shopping, Broadway, and the Statue Of Liberty and Ellis Island. My only regret about this wonderful tour was that it was only one day. I am really looking forward to getting back and spending some more time in NY. It was one of the best sightseeing tours I have ever done.

Trusted Tours & Attractions offers discounted tickets to some of the best sightseeing tours in 21 cities across America. If you are looking for some great vacation ideas you should stop by and check them out. They are also having a contest where anyone who signs up to receive the Trusted Travel eNewsletter is entered into a drawing to Win a free digital camera. The camera is a Canon PowerShot digital camera.

I've Been Extremely Sick - It SUCKS

Sorry to you all that I haven't been around or posting lately. I have been extremely sick since Saturday. It started out as what I thought was a simple cold and ended up being a very nasty flu. I have been laid up for several days and have not felt like getting on the computer. In fact, I haven't really felt like doing much except laying on the couch or in bed. I am starting to feel better today and can hopefully return to work and to blogging tomorrow.

Twitter Is "Crunchie"

While the Webby Awards are considered the Oscars for the Internet, there is a new Golden Globe emerging. Back in January some of the top "MEGA" blogs like TechCrunch started and held the first ever "Crunchies." These awards are much more focused on internet entrepreneurs, blogging, and the social aspect of the internet.

You may have heard of Twitter, if not where have you been, and it was a Crunchie winner for Best Mobile Start-up. Now I don't know if you are using twitter, I personally don't. I have way to many things going on to have the time to be always posting crap about what I happen to be doing each moment. Heck many times I find it very difficult to work in time to post on my blogs. Anyway I thought you all might find this article interesting.....

Which Is Better Clean Desk Or Cluttered Desk

There has been an ongoing debate on whether or not a clean desk leads to higher productivity. There are those that say an ordered desk is less distracting and that leads to higher productivity. Some studies suggest that requiring some people to clean their desk actually causes a drop in productivity.

In a book titled "A Perfect Mess" co-author David Freedman writes that,
Mess is good for a lot of reasons. First of all, you save a lot of time. Another reason is there is efficiency in mess," he said. "People who are really messy know where there stuff is. Because it reflects the way they work and think and in addition it's expressive.
What a great idea, allowing people a bit of freedom to express themselves and the way they work and think. Some people come by a neat desk naturally, some don't. Some like order and neatness and that is how they work and think. Others think in a more disordered way and their "space" reflects that. It isn't to say that one is necessarily better than the other.

The authors of "A Perfect Mess" found that employees that have messy desks are 36%more efficient. Another funny thing is that they conducted a survey that shows the bigger the salary, the bigger the mess. You have heard that you should always dress for the job you want not the job you have, well you should keep you desk for the job you want and not the job you have. The messier your desk the more your boss will know you want that promotion. Okay we all can see the fault in that but it still is an interesting tidbit.

I have seen a co-worker with a messy desk covered in papers with his cell, blackberry, ipod, laptop, and other devices plugged in charger wires running all over. He has his coffee cup, a water bottle, and an old McDonald's cup sitting on his desk. He always knows where things are at. Then there is the guy with an neat desk. He has one of those new charger station things to organize his cell, ipod, and blackberry, and there isn't a cup or bottle to be found. Yet he can't seem to find anything to save his life. Which is better?

Overall I think that a clean and neat workspace is better for all. I don't think it should come at the expense of individuality. People do need some freedom to express themselves. What does your desk look like? Is it messy or neat? Is your mess organized or do you spend a lot of time searching for things? I will leave you with a quote from Albert Einstein,

If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk?
Albert Einstein

Got Your RealRank Yet?

For those of you familiar with PayPerPost you have known about RealRank for quite some time. For those of you that aren't RealRank is a new Blog ranking system from Izea the site - IZEARanks.com. I got the email today letting me know the site was live. I stopped by registered my blog and checked everything out. Understand this is a ranking system for blogs and nothing else. In fact they allow users to flag sights that aren't blogs. The downside I see right away is the opt-in facet of the system. There will be sights that choose not to participate because of it's association on some level with PayPerPost, or some other reason.

RealRank according to the site is a "blog ranking system that uses real data to calculate which blogs are getting the most traffic and have the most influence on the web. IZEARanks ranks the top blogs in the blogosphere via actual site statistics, not an extrapolation of estimates." There is a very nice graphical chart somewhat remeniscent of Alexa's comparison graphs. You can chart and compare multiple blogs based on RealRank, pageviews, and unique visitors. One nice thing is that a blogger can choose whether or not they want their stats public or private. This doesn't apply to the actual RealRank only to the pageviews and unique vistors stats. I think this will help attract some bloggers that are looking for a bit more privacy.

With the relative ease of gaming Alexa and all the Google PR crap of late it will be nice to see a blog ranking system that actually means something and that is actually based on traffic and visitors and not like PR that Google can just decide to change on a whim because they happen to decide paid links are a bad thing.

I would love to see RealRank rise to the top of blog ranking and really take out Google PR, Alexa, and Technorati. The only way this is going to happen though is for bloggers like you and me to use the RealRank system. I encourage all of my readers to head over to IZEARanks.com and register your blog today.

Has Anyone Been Paid For Their PayPerPost Referals?

I have quite a few PayPerPost referrals and haven't been paid for a single one. I have been hard pressed to find many who have been paid. Now I don't have hundreds of referrals but I certainly have enough where at least some would have published and been paid for at least one article by now. Yet not a single status that isn't still pending.

Have you been paid for any of your PayPerPost referrals? If so how long did it take?

I'm Back And Bloggerer Than Ever

I really have no idea what that means. I am back though and ready to get back in the blogging swing of things. So if you were wondering why the posting had slowed down here is why. I was on a brief excursion through the lush concrete jungles of the 3rd largest metro area in the US. Fondly known as the "windy city." That would be Chicago folks. Well now that I have returned I feel that it is once again time for me to begin making plans to leave again. I love travelling and certainly love vacations. I try and get away as much as possible. It really isn't as expensive as you might think. I can pick up tickets to many great places in the Caribean for around $150 round trip. The travel dates aren't the most flexible and usually you only have a few days to make a decision and purchase them, but you can't beat the prices.

I know I have a lot of readers from Australia and I would love to visit that country. I was actually checking on prices for a flight to Australia and found that they weren't as bad as what I was thinking they would be. I would also like to swing over to New Zealand while in the area. That trip is probably one I will be trying to take in the near future.

This summer I am going to be doing a 2 week "volunteer vacation" in Costa Rica. I will be working with kids and doing athletic camps. My days will be filled with lots of work and other activities but most nights and all weekends will be free. The whole package including air and meals and everything is only $600! Now granted I am doing volunteer work and I'm not staying at the Ritz, but I get to see a place I have never seen, help kids in need, and experience a culture in a way a regular vacation would never allow.

You need a break. Get away from "it" for a while. With a little research, an open mind, and some flexibility you can travel for much less than what you think. Remember that you can take advantage of currency exchange rates and more to make a vacation less expensive. Quit making excuses and start doing. You only live once and you might as well live your dreams - no excues.

Did I Reach My $1500 January Goal?

Now that the month of January is over I had a bit of time to total up the numbers. I know I was anxious to see if I had reached my goal. I know many of you were probably wondering the same thing.

Oh yeah, In case you missed it I set a goal for this blog to earn $1500 in January. When I set this goal it was on January 15th and I had earned a total of $606.33 so far for the month. I was very determined to meet the goal and I tried to keep everyone updated as to my progress. Now it is time to see the final numbers.

Here are the final earnings numbers for the January.

Affiliate Sales: $937.18
Paid Posting: $430.34
Contextual Ads: $73.88
Ad/Link Sales: $10.00
Misc: $11.37

Total MTD: $1462.77

A new earnings record for the blog!!! While not quite to my $1500 goal it is an average of roughly $47.19 per day for the month. I have to admit I am a little disappointed. I know I was very close, but close is still not good enough for me. Stay tuned for what is coming February. I will be busy the rest of the weekend but come Monday I will be posting my February goal as well as details on the February contest.

I will be giving away a FREE Domain w/ One Year of Hosting!

If You're A Blogger Or Affiliate Marketer You MUST Protect Your Identity

While I have never had a true identity theft episode in all of my years on the internet I have had one issue with Paypal and chargebacks and my bank account. It was a big mess that took weeks to sort out, and in that time I was out around $2000. It was not fun and tons of work for me.

I have spoken with several people, one in just the last severl days, that have had identity theft episodes where a credit card or in one case a very large home loan was taken out in their name using their social security number and other personal information. In all cases trying to sort the mess out has cost a lot of time and money

Because I do so much work online and have quite a few different places that have my personal information, I have taken steps to protect myself against identity theft. If you are looking to make money online many places will require your personal information for 1099 purposes. If you are not protecting your identity you are taking a huge risk.

The company I use is called Lifelock. I am an affiliate with them. Yes I have run campaigns for lifelock, but no that is is not affiliate link. I am not looking for affiliate sales with this article. I started doing affiliate marketing for them after I was already using their services.

You may recognize the name Lifelock because they have done quite a bit of advertising lately. Their commercials are the ones where Todd Davis, their CEO, gives out his actual social security number over the radio. At Lifelock, not only do they secure your identity and guarantee your good name, they ensure it with their $1 Million Service Guarantee. Lifelock has the credit bureaus to set fraud alerts on your behalf. That is all they credit bureaus offer when they talk about ID theft. Lifelock goes beyond that though. Unless your circumstances change and you tell them not to, every 90 days or so they will ask the credit bureaus to do it again. Most people could do this manually but you know that you probably wouldn't and neither would most. Next they request that your name be removed from pre-approved credit card and junk mail lists and they keep making the requests as they expire. This is huge and reduces the amount of junk mail drastically. That isn't all they do. They also order your free credit reports on your behalf from the major credit bureaus and they are sent directly to you. This is done every year.

They also have what they call WalletLock. If ever your wallet goes missing, just give Lifelock a call - anytime, anywhere - and a WalletLock specialist will help you contact each credit card, bank or document issuing company, cancel your affected accounts and complete the paperwork and steps necessary to replace your lost documents, including your credit/debit cards, driver's license, social security card, insurance cards, checkbook - even travelers checks - at no additional cost.

And of coure there is that guarantee. If your Identity is stolen while you are a member of LifeLock, they will do whatever it takes to help you recover your good name and will spend up to $1,000,000 to do it. If you are not taking steps to protect your identity I urge you to do so. Blog safely folks :).

Google Weeding Out Adsense Freeloaders

I have to say that the practice of "domain tasting," "domain floating," or "domain kiting" is one that I had not heard of. In fact I honestly didn't know you could return a domain name within 5 days with no penalties. Really if you could register several hundred thousand domains a day and just make a few cents off of each one before returning it that would a decent little chunk of change. Well now that I know about the practice it is too late to take advantage of it.

Relieve The Stress Of Blogging - Shoot Something

Not with a real gun! And notice I said something not someone. Practice gun safety at all times. Although you do shoot at people when playing paintball, but that is only when everyone is wearing the proper safety equipment. Anyway check out this site for some great stress relieving ideas. Airgun Depot is a leading provider of air guns, BB guns, replica guns, and more. Trust me heading outside and plinking for a while or getting together for a game of paintball is a great way to vent a bit.

Airgun Depot stocks a wide variety of pellet guns, air rifles, air pistols, bb guns and bb gun accessories, as well as a great selection of airsoft guns, blank guns, and paintball. They sell top quality replica guns and are perfect for target practice, plinking, hunting and games. They have a great selection and great prices on "ammo" as well. They have everything you will need.
