Make More Money From Your Average Blog

Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Basic with Discount Coupon Code
Have you ever wondered how you could increase revenue on just your average blog? Do you want to make more money? Do you want to make your blogging easier and more productive? Today I am featuring a guest article on just this subject. The topic being discussed is using a particular piece of software to boost earnings and productivity. Also in addition to all of this great information I have an exclusive offer for all of you. Nuance is allowing us to offer our readers a 25% Discount Coupon CODE Exclusive for Dragon Naturally Speaking, but you must click the image to the left and use this code (DNSMSBG) Together. Code will not work from other sources.

Here is a quick video...CHECK OUT THE ARTICLE BELOW

This is an excerpt from a white paper discussing how bloggers can earn more money through several different monetization and freelance writing services. It shows that bloggers that utilize Dragon Naturally Speaking can earn more money through these various services and how fast these extra earnings will pay for the software itself.
Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Blogger Break Even Analysis with Average PayPerPost Earnings

Basically, Dragon NaturallySpeaking can help you type so much faster, that you can earn a lot more money per hour.
In this article I'm going to walk you through another scenario focusing on how much extra you could earn if you wrote for PayPerPost.com and you had a single average blog. Now at PayPerPost.com, the amount of money that you earn for your writing is not paid on a per word basis.
PayPerPost.com offers up opportunities, they call them opportunities, but you can also think of them as piecework or a job, and these "opportunities" typically have a minimum word count. The minimum word count is typically 200 words for your average article. In general the average article at PayPerPost on a high earning blog pays about $8.3. Sometimes they pay a little less, and sometimes they pay a little bit more, and a few go to extremes on the positive side.
Now if you are paid $8.3 to write a 200 word article, then that breaks down to about 4.2 cents per word. That is about 6 times more than what you can make at textbroker.com. I mentioned that only for comparison purposes, because PayPerPost.com limits you to writing three articles per blog per day.
That means that you cannot write at PayPerPost all day long for your single blog. (If you have additional blogs, you might be able to write additional articles on those other blogs.)
Tip! – You can write your three articles at PayPerPost, write some additional articles without any sponsors in between those articles (as is required), and then write some articles at PayU2Blog, and when the work is exhausted there, you can write some articles at TextBroker.com! The trick is working for the company that pays you the most first, then moving on to the next highest margin provider, over and over again.
You will see in the case studies with Adsense that writing MORE articles is actually good for building traffic to your blog!
But if we assume, just to have a comparison to our textbroker.com example, if we assume that you could type articles at PayPerPost for fifty minutes straight, earning 4.2 cents per word, and you could type 35 words per minute, you could earn $72.88 dollars per hour at PayPerPost. Now obviously, you cannot take 9 articles on a single blog in a single day, but this does point to the rate at which you can earn things with the work that is available. That $72.88 would be the earnings you could make from about 8.8 Opportunities at $8.3 per Opportunity.
So bear with me again with this example. :-)
So what can faster typing skills do to help you earn more money at PayPerPost?
Well if you could type at 150 words per minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and you currently type at 35 words per minute, then you could earn about $239 per hour more! (Dragon only costs between $99 and $199 remember!)
Reminder - This would assume that you could type articles nonstop at a hundred and fifty words per minute for fifty minutes. For most of us, that doesn't mean a whole lot.
But to put this in better perspective, if you earned $72.88 from writing about nine articles, and those articles were each 200 words long, then you would have written a total of 1800 words.
• 1800 words can be typed and 50 minutes at 35 words per minute
• 1800 words can be typed in 12 minutes at 150 words per minute
Dragon NaturallySpeaking can essentially save you 38 minutes when you write nine articles.
Now with those additional thirty-eight minutes, you can spend more time:
• promoting your blog,
• networking with people,
• researching other projects,
• taking on other work from other networks
• build up a new blog to command $8.3 per article!
• Go write some articles for PayU2Blog
• Go write some articles for TextBroker
• Go write some articles to bring in more traffic and earn more money through Adsense!
You can pocket your $72.88 from twelve minutes worth of work. You can then spend the rest of that hour, working to ensure that the blog you publish those on performs very well. But the point is this, Dragon NaturallySpeaking can save you so much time, that it will pay for itself very quickly.
Your average part-time blogger will easily pay for Dragon NaturallySpeaking with the additional profits that they would earn from using Dragon NaturallySpeaking in less than 1 hour worth of blogging through PayPerPost alone. :-)
Plus just think of all of the time, that you would now have to make yourself and your site even more successful!

If you would like more information you can read the full white paper available at http://www.softduit.com/mavenmappersinformation/category/software/dragon-naturally-speaking/.

5 Ways To Regain Motivation After A Long Weekend

I don't know about all of you but the day after a long weekend is always tough for me. It is hard to get going and find that motivation to do any work. I always just try and take it easy for a bit in the morning. No reason to over do it! Relax, have a cup or two of coffee, slog through a few emails, head down the hall and chat a bit, then get to work. In this way I liken the return to work as a return to a discarded exercise regimen; You've got to ease back into it or it will kick your butt.

  1. Light exercise - calisthenics
  2. This is a great way to get the blood flowing in the morning and will give you more energy throughout your day. Many Japanese practice this every day.
  3. Find the "happy" "peppy" person in your office
  4. Find that person, you know who they are, that just seems to have a bit more pep than most. Carry on a conversation with them and you will find that pep will rub off.
  5. Spend a minute to clean and organize your desk
  6. Get everything organized and back in shape so you aren't distracted and overwhelmed by clutter.
  7. Pick an small easy task and complete it first
  8. This could be something simple as step 3 above or clearing out your email inbox. If you immediately start in on something tedious you will get bogged down.
  9. Take a few extra short breaks
  10. I know this sounds a bit counterproductive but you don't need to try and run a marathon. It is okay to stop and take a few extra breaks today. Don't take long drawn out mega breaks. Keep them short, 5 minutes or less, and just get up and walk around chat a bit, get coffee, and then get back to it.

These are a few things that really help me after a long weekend or a vacation. That first day back is always tough, especially in the morning. What do you do to motivate yourself and make it through the day? Do you even have trouble after a few days off?

Choosing Anchor Text For Your Internal Links

Internal page links are an area over which you have complete control yet many people don't pay enough attention to them. You have the greatest control over links from within your own web site so take advantage of that control. Sometimes it is hard to control how others link to you, but you can always do a good job of providing great links to yourself using internal site linking.

Here are some rules to follow when creating your Internal Page Links.

Make sure that the anchor text for you link is relevant to your target page

Whenever it is possible use words similar to those expressed in the title of the target article or page you are linking to. Make sure the anchor text is relevant and that the link title and the title of the article, post or page match the main keywords of the target page. Having a few of those ubiquitous "click here" links scattered around might make you look a bit more natural, but for the most part your links should describe what is on the other end of the link. For example if I wanted to link to one of my previous posts about Transforming Your Blog By Changing Yourself I could type in a link that looks like this.

Read my post Practice - Transforming Your Blog By Changing Yourself - Part 1 here.

It would be more profitable and productive however to use the title of
the post which includes good keywords as the anchor text for the link. Here is
the way it should be done.

Read my post Practice - Transforming Your Blog By Changing Yourself - Part 1.
This type of linking has a large impact on how you will rank for keywords. The more you link internally using specific keywords and to relevant content the higher you will rank for those keywords.

Use the title tag and use the main keywords from the target page

The title tag in a link is not as important as the anchor text, but many search engines still place quite a bit of weight on it. You can also make up a bit for a not-so-hot anchor text with good title keywords.

Example:
<a href="http://profitableproductiveblogging.com/"
title="Profitable Productive Blogging - Make Money Online With Cman"> Profitable Productive Blogging</a>
Internal linking when done right will not only boost your standing for your keywords but also will encourage people to continue reading other content on your site. When posting on a topic that you have posted on in the past you should always include link(s) back to your previous posts. When people start clicking links on your site they move from being simple readers to being actively engaged in your sites content.

Black Friday, Free Cell Phones, And Making Money

Okay well I would assume that by now you have probably come across a Black Friday ad online somewhere. There are entire sites devoted year 'round to just that one day. Stores purposefully leak the ads to build buzz. People get in line at midnight, or earlier in some cases, just to get that TV, Computer, or toy for their kid.

A lot of brick-and-mortar stores have started extending the Black Friday sales to their online stores as well. The online store runs the sale the same hours as the in-store sale and with many offering free site-to-store shipping this is fast becoming the way to go for many consumers. I know for me I have pretty much quit going out on Black Friday. I never, well once about 10 years ago, gotten what I really wanted and wasted my day trying to get. I would just get frustrated and stressed and end up wasting the day anyway. So now I do the online shopping thing, or I convince some poor gullible soul to go out for me :).

Well I wanted to make my contribution to the Black Friday hysteria and let you know you can get a free cell phone on Black Friday and you will never have to leave the comfort of your own home. You can check out great deals from all the major carriers including some really good Verizon Wireless Black Friday ads.

Are you looking for the iPhone? Come on...With the iPhone now the number one cell phone ever I'm sure your spouse or kid has been bugging you for one. Now granted you won't get the iPhone for free but you can get some other great at&t Black Friday specials. Hey let me tell you I have the iPhone and ATT service and the phone is the best phone I have ever had, and the ATT coverage is really good. Combine that with the best 3G coverage and you have a winner.

Don't like ATT? Then what about checking out some TMobile Black Friday ads. TMobile is a great carrier with a ton of free phones and other great Black Friday deals. I've never had TMobile, but I have some friends that do and they are extremely happy. Now if for some weird reason :) you like Sprint/Nextel they are also running some Black Friday deals. I personally have never like Sprint or Nextel, but I do know some construction guys that like Nextel, although they seem to be the only ones. Anyway if you go the Sprint route you can find some pretty decent Sprint Black Friday specials and make someone sorta happy with their phone :) this Christmas.

Well if you are the type of person that goes out and braves the crowds to get that great deal I wish you the best. If you, like me, like to shop from the comfort of your couch click on a few of the links above, get your free phone, and save your sanity :)....Until next time....

Are We Too Connected?

I have asked myself, and others, this question many times. It all started with the answering machine. Then we had emails, mobile phones, and now mobile phones with emails. We now have Twitter, which I have yet to embrace. It isn't that I don't see how it could benefit this blog, but simply put I don't give a da-- that you are sitting in starbuck's reading a book. I don't figure you give a da-- that I am either. I understand Twitter goes beyond that, but you get the point.

So we have people running around with their iPhones and Crackberries worried they are missing emails, phonecalls, and text messages. They are doing this while listening to music and Twittering away. With all of the social networking apps for the new smart phones, I have to admit I do love my iPhone, they are probably running an app that allows them to geotag the picture they just took, just before playing live poker and chatting with other players....

We all need to just unplug, turn off, disconnect, and chill out. What do you think? Are we just a bit toooo connected? Do we let all of these so called time savers actually suck up our time responding to and posting useless bits of information? You should read the The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich by Timothy Ferris and see how he handles his time. You might like what you read...also below is another perspective...enjoy

Save Money & Blog Better

Guest Article and video by Brett Bumeter of Benspark dot com. Stop over and check out his blog about photography. A big thanks to Brett for this article. I have been talking about an application over the last several weeks called Dragon NaturallySpeaking. With this great program you can knock out a blog article in literally less than half the time. I love it. The price for 25% off Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Standard is very reasonable and with the coupon code below you can save 25%.

With 25% off Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred you can even transcribe from mp3s. I love this option because I can blog while driving. I record what I want to say on my iPhone and then load the audio into the program and viola first draft of an article.

Nuance is allowing us to offer our readers a 25% Discount Coupon CODE Exclusive for Dragon Naturally Speaking, but you must click the image below and use this code DNSMSBG together. The code will not work from other sources.Anyway...without further ado...

Hello my name is Brett Bumeter and I write about Dragon Naturally Speaking at Softduit.com (Tip if you are looking for the details on the coupon codes scroll to the bottom of this article). I wanted to share this video with you showing a fellow blogger named Drew who is using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 for the first time. There are some interesting things that you will see in this video that I wanted to point out to help you get a sense of how Dragon NaturallySpeaking works and how it could potentially work for you.

I think it's important to see Dragon NaturallySpeaking, when people are using it and videos definitely help show you how well the software works these days. It's extremely fast and can help you to type at 150 words per minute. You can see this in the demonstration that Drew has created as he is basically talking at a relatively normal speed. You will notice that he tends to look with his eyes to the right and up just a little bit.

I mention this not because Drew is looking in some strange direction, but instead because Dragon NaturallySpeaking does use your brain in a slightly different way than what you may be used to. You have to think of the words you will say in your head and then speak it out loud. That's a little different than when you think of a composition and type it out with your fingers or even more different than when you attempt to write with your hands using a pen and paper. All three activities use different sections of our brains.

There used to be a time a decade ago when using Dragon NaturallySpeaking was more difficult because it would take a significant amounts of time to train the software. These days, the software can be trained in as little as seven minutes. The out-of- the-box experience with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 is flat-out amazing. That said, it will take you a little bit of time to train your brain or compose messages or articles or e-mails by speaking them out loud.
Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Basic with Discount Coupon Code
You can type 150 words a minute using Dragon NaturallySpeaking and that's typically 2 to 3 times faster than your average person can type. 2 to 3 times faster can save you a great deal of time and a great deal of money. This can enable you to spend more time with your family or be more productive at work and get more done and possibly a promotion or raise. Possibly the biggest benefit that you can experience is just staying on top of your workload with less effort.

If you consider also that Drew is looking off to the right a little bit as he's composing, I will share with you a hidden benefit of Dragon NaturallySpeaking. When you use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you are not locked into a position physically, where you have to stare at your computer monitor all of the time. When you don't have the light on your computer screen glaring in your face all the time, you experience a great deal less eye strain. The muscles in your eyes can relax more, as you look around the room and change your focal point. You would be amazed at how much extra energy this will give you as your eyes, and the muscles in your eyes don't get worn out as fast as they would if you sit at a computer and type all day long.

We often associate sore hands and fingers and wrists with typing, but typing also creates very sore eyes and can even lead to migraine headaches. Plus, it basically just makes you tired sitting in front of your computer. Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you can save a great deal of time and effort and keep your energy level high, because you're not wearing out your eyes. With a wireless microphone headset like the one I’m using, you can even pace around your desk or exercise on a treadmill or bike machine while you write your emails!

Best regards,
Brett Bumeter

Blogging Freedom - America Vs. Malaysia

Be thankful live in America where you can blog with freedom. You can blog critically of your government without fear of prison. The recent Presidential election was an example of the power and influence of the new online media, including highly respected and wide read blogs. This was the first Presidential election ever where the majority of people 18-34 got their information from the web.

The internet is a key source of independent news in Malaysia where the government exercises tight control on the mainstream media. Bloggers are now increasingly in the government's sights with several being charged with sedition. One of the most influential bloggers in Malaysia was jailed and just recently released.

The Changing Abode

Since I moved out of my last residence back in the middle of June I have been a vagabond. I have temporarily been staying with friends and family and looking for a place to call my own. Now you may be wondering why it took so long? Well for me it was a very big decision. I have two kids and where I live has a big impact on them as well. At the present time they don't live with me, but I am hopeful that they will be in the near future. Because of this I had to take them into account when it came to size and location.

I looked at a ton of places in many many different municipalities. Well I finally decided on a place last week and put down my deposit. I have never rented before, but given my situation at the moment I have not been looking to buy. Well, I met the owner of the place last night and signed the lease. I now have keys to my brand new place. To say I'm a bit stoked is probably an understatement. It will be so nice to have my own place again. It will be next week before I move in and I am sooo looking forward to it.

The price and the location of this place really can't be beat. The original asking price was quite a bit more than what I am paying so that is a blessing. The location is very close to work and major roadways so I can get places pretty easily. It is also within walking distance for the elementary, middle, junior, and high schools. Now isn't that cool. Congrats to me!

The Power Of Blogging

Monday night around 11:45ish I was sitting watching some TV, blogging, & chatting with friends when suddenly the whole house went black. I had no power. This lasted for about an hour and then everything returned to normal. I was using my laptop but I had my battery removed so when the power shut off so did the computer. I didn't feel like digging around in the office in the dark to find the battery. It could be so many places depending on the mood I was in when I removed it last. Anyway, this little scenario got me thinking about blogging without power.

I would define power as having control of, authority, or influence over others. How does one define the power of a blog? There are various rankings from Technorati, Alexa, Google, and others as well. What do they mean though? What do they represent and do they give a good indication of the power of a blog? Does a blog that had a PR6 in October last year that now has a PR4 have less power? What about if that same blog now has 1000 more RSS subscribers than it did in October? What if the blog's revenue has increase by 30% in the same span? Does the blog have more power due to the increases in subscriptions and revenue? Does it have less now that its PR is lower?

Lets look again at the definition I put forth for power, "having control of, authority, or influence over others." Would you say the Google PR drop or the increases would have a greater impact on power based on my basic definition? I think the answer to this question seems straight forward, but break down the definition into its parts and have a closer look.

Having control of - Does the blog have control of PR? How about subscriptions and revenue. Google holds the power when it comes to PR and how it wants to determine and award it. The blog holds the power when it comes to controlling content, most variables that drive subscriptions, as well as control over generating revenue. Now what if the blog lost a large portion of search traffic from Google because of the PR drop? This in turn reduces traffic, reducing RSS subscriptions, and reducing revenue. Now who holds the power? A blog owner has control over content, marketing, design, revenue generation and more. He or she holds the power for that blog. Google holds the power over PR and where a result ranks for searched keywords. The blogger then has control over how to position the blog so that it is the least dependent on Google or any other single traffic source as possible. In my opinion the blogger ultimately is the one having control of the blog, Google doesn't hold that much power yet...There is nothing wrong with writing for SEO, but remember who you are writing for. Write exclusively for ranking in Google, or any other search engine for that matter, and you give them the power. Write what you want and what people want to read. Write in your own style and with your own personality, and you hold the power over your blog.

Authority - What defines a blog's authority? It certainly isn't Technorati as it is too easily gamed. What makes a blog authoritative? There are many factors that go into authority. Age of the blog is one, quality of content is another, and of course you have traffic and subscription numbers thrown in as well. Another factor is the background of the author. A person who is already well know in certain circles has authority before even putting finger to key. Conversely a person not well known has a much more difficult time as the experience and network aren't already in place. Authority then really comes from a track record of success and actual life experience. For example, a friend of mine Lori of A Cowboy's Wife, wouldn't have much authority if she was single and living in LA or NY with nary a cowboy in sight. She has been successful because she has authority in the area in which her blog is focused.

Influence over others - This is tied closely with authority. The more authority you have or are perceived to have the more influence you will have over others. Influence is also determined by the style and quality of writing. Just as there are more dynamic and influential speakers, there are more dynamic and influential writers and bloggers. You can have authority on your topic yet not be the most influential. You can be influential without having as much authority as the next guy. Stephen Hawking is one of the most recognizable faces of science and physics specifically and in the eyes of many still today has a large amount of authority. Yet it can be argued that he has not had the greatest actual influence on the physics community over the last 35 years. His authority comes from his visibility and his influence is greater in the lay world than in the physics world. His books and speaking engagements and even to a point his struggle through his disability all contribute to his authority.

Bottom line is that an author holds the control over the content of the blog. The authority for the blog and author comes from a track record of success, actual life experience, and visibility. Influence really comes down to the perceptions people have. The better they perceive you the more weight they give to your opinions - authority - and the more they will allow those opinions to shape their own - influence.

How do you define the power of a blog? What do you think defines a blog's authority? How about influence? How closely do you think authority and influence are tied?

Get $25 Of Food For Only $2

How to save money at Restaurants with Restaurant.com Certificates

Restaurant.com is a great way for you to save some money this holiday season. I have been using Restaurant.com for quite a while now and love their prices. Normally you get a $25 certificate for only $10, which is a great deal. As an affiliate partner with Restaurant.com I get information on some of their best deals. I wrote an article on this last October about How To Save Money At Restaurants and talked about how you can stretch your dollar using Restaurant.com certificates and their special promotions. Well I am please to announce that once again Restaurant.com is running their TREATS coupon code promotion. Once you have selected all the certificates you want enter the coupon code TREATS in the checkout box and you will get this incredible deal.

Head on over to Restaurant.com and start searching for restaurants in your area. They have restaurant descriptions and even menus for you to help choose a new restaurant. The cool thing about purchasing a gift certificate from Restaurant is that you don't have to wait for it in the mail you simply print it out. Navigating The Browser Minefield

How many browsers do you use? One? Two? Three or more? For me I really like Firefox and use it most of the time. At work however I have problems with it for certain applications and have to use Explorer. Now Google comes along with their new browser Chrome. The Google Chrome browser is a very fast browser and I really like how each tab is a separate process and if one crashes you don't have to shut down the entire app. When Google Chrome came out I tried it and really liked the speed and tab/process features so I started using it at home as my main browser for most things. I can't use Google Chrome at work though because of security/proxy issues, so I have still been using the Firefox/Explorer combination.

Well now there is a new browser in the mix. It is from Mozilla, the guys behind Firefox, and it is called Minefield. Now the big hype surrounding Google Chrome was that it's new javascript engine was supposedly the fastest around. Well now Mozilla and the new Minefield browser have dropped into the mix claiming that their javascript engine is even faster than that of Google Chrome. Well let me just tell you that after downloading Minefield last friday and putting it through it's paces over the weekend, from my personal perspective it is the fastest browser I have ever used. I put it head to head with Chrome and while both performed really well Minefield consistently beat Chrome in all the tests I through at them.

If you are looking for a blazing fast browser and don't mind that it is technically still in alpha release, although so far I haven't really had any issues during my use, then you really need to download Mozilla Minefield. Since my download on Friday there has already been an update from Mozilla and it seems that Minefield is running even faster today. Although this is really just anectdotal on my part as I haven't yet ran any benchmarking to compare to what I ran over the weekend. I applaud Google's efforts with Chrome and they certainly produced a very good browser that is fast, stable, much more secure than explorer, and has a very nice user interface. However, after all is said and done I am currently using Minefield as my main browser for most of the time. Now if Minefield would take the Google Chrome browser separate tab separate process idea it would be hands down the best browser I have ever used. What browsers do you use? Have you tried either Google Chrome or Mozilla Minefield yet? If so, what is your opinion?

Vote in my browser poll located to the right in the first column...Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Minefield, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Apple Safari?

Mommy Bloggers In The News

I saw this news broadcast on mommy bloggers and thought you all might be interested, and I included the video below. Blogging is a great way for moms to make some extra money from the home. A friend of mine Lori Falcon, who only started blogging about 1 1/2 years ago, has established 4 great blogs and is well on her way to building a little blogging empire and making some great money. She has recently received recognition from Wal-Mart as one of their Eleven Moms and is in the process of getting her makeover. Big congrats to Lori for all of her success. If you haven't visited her blogs here are some links.

Lisa Reviews Dragon Naturally Speaking

If you have never visited the blog Lisa Reviews I think you should head over and check it out. She does really great reviews on a variety of products. She hits everything from software to dolls and tons of stuff in between. Watch her video review below and then click the link to her blog and poke around. You won't be disappointed.

Here is another great video review by Lisa, who coincidently writes the blog Lisa Reviews. She writes about how she can write at 150 words per minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

I think one of the key takeaways from her video, the key insight that is, is that she is able to write a lot more in those spare moments of time that she has while she's doing other things. Sometimes it's great to multitask, but it's even more important to be able to accomplish useful goals in those spare two or three or four minute pockets of time that we all experience throughout the day.

With Dragon NaturallySpeaking a four minute pocket of time can translate into 600 words! That could be three or four e-mails or one or two long blog articles if you're a blogger like Lisa.
Slick

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard
For just $99 you can get started with Dragon NaturallySpeaking and have it trained in running in about seven minutes. The software with version 10 is simply amazing.

I have been writing about Dragon NaturallySpeaking for almost 2 years now. I have been able to type at rates of up to 167 words per minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. That speed was clocked while I was taking a typing test, but even in practical situations when I factor in not only the time it takes to type, but the time that it also takes to edit the words I typed, the end result is that I can still achieve about 100 words a minute, INCLUDING editing time! J

That is extremely fast, and the inclusion of editing time, speaks to the advances that you can see in version 10 as compared to older versions such as version 8 or version 9. It's a lot easier to edit on the fly with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.

So if you're looking for a practical tool for your home office, for your writing or blog work, or even just to keep up with e-mail in your spare time, Dragon NaturallySpeaking can give you the power to type at $150 words per minute for $99!. Heck, I think I paid that much almost for my last keyboard so that I wouldn't pound my fingers to death. :-)

Sincerely,
Brett Bumeter
Softduit Media
www.softduit.com
PS this article includes about 376 words that I wrote with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. It took me about 3 1/2 minutes to write and edit this article, which is just a little bit better than 100 words per minute and that includes editing time.

Be Careful What You Say - Blogger Lawsuits Increasing

As bloggers we all need to be careful what we say. Obviously bigger blogs with tens of thousands of readers will have greater exposure to legal action. Although any Blogger needs to be careful what they write and remember that they could possibly be opening themselves up for legal action. Here is an interesting news story on the topic...thought you guys might be interested.

Comments Fixed - $50 October Contest Is Back ON !!

First let me say a big thanks to Rita over at Rita's Digest (bloggrrl.com) for dropping me a message telling me that she couldn't for the life of her figure out how to make a comment. At first I thought this strange as I personally had never had any trouble ;) , then I actually tried to make a comment. Obviously I got the same result as Rita. No go with the comments. I started investigating and realized that Google had come out with a new comment format option for blogger. It is an "embedded below post" option. Well this blog had been defaulted to that option and it was not compatible with the current template. I have fixed the problem and the comments are working again the $50 October Contest is back ON !!

One more thanks to Rita for saving the contest!

Obama Wants Your Blogging Profits

Obama wants to support all of us middle class folks in achieving the American dream. Just remember that the American dream tops out at $250,000! After that you are the evil rich and are to be punished for your arrogance and success. Heck I know a lot of small business people that are middle class and far from rich who gross over $250,000 a year and THEY ARE A FAR CRY FROM RICH Mr. Obama.

I'm not simply bashing Obama, and I'm not supporting anyone with this post. I am simply questioning his reasoning for the $250,000 threshold. I know a man who runs a landscape/care taking business with only 3 employees and he grosses almost twice that much. Although after paying the already exorbitant taxes, overhead, and good middle class wages to his employees only gets a solid middle class income himself.

Now Obama would FORCE him to provide health insurance for his employees on top of raising his taxes. This extra burden has the potential to put him out of business or cause him decrease payroll. How is that good for those 4 middle class people?

Just curious and wondering? Let me know your thoughts.

Applaud The Macro - Lament The Micro

I got the title of this post from the last paragraph of an article by Jonathan Stein that I read today. It is just a little commentary by him on bloggers and their view of themselves and blogging in general. It is a very interesting little read. Here is the article in it's entirety...not the little disclaimer at the end from which I got the title to this post.

October Contest - $50 Trick-Or-Treat

It has been a long time since I ran a contest hasn't it? Well just last week I purchased an incredible Halloween costume and so I decided to run a contest that involved it. The contest will be simple and you don't have to be right to win! The contest has two parts and here are the "rules."

Rules:

1. Subscribe to my feed and post a comment with your guess, and feel free to mention what you will or might be for Halloween. It is that simple. You are entered in the contest. If you decide to also post an article mentioning the contest and linking back to this contest post and you get 5 extra entries. It is that simple...each person can get up to 6 entries in the contest.

2. I will also be awarding a bonus prize to the correct guess. In the event that there are multiple correct guesses the person with the most entries wins. If there is still a tie then the person that commented first will win.

3. Contest ends on Friday October 31, 2008 at 4:00 PM Central Daylight Savings Time.

Prizes:

1. The prize for the winning entry will be a Totally Bricked iPhone! JUST KIDDING...

Actually the prize is $35 cash

2. The prize for the correct guess will $15 cash

Not really a prize but I will be posting a "winner" post and will include backlinks to all entries!

Pretty simple and straightforward....

********************************************************************************

Are you planning on dressing up for a Halloween party this year? Are you going to go trick-or-treating dressed up or go out to a party? You really need to start looking for your costume now for the best selection. That is why I usually buy mine right around the first of October. If you are looking for a particular costume there are tons of Halloween Costume Stores out there to choose from both on and off line. Click the costume link in the last sentence for free Shipping on orders over $60 until 10/10/08! See even they want you to get your order in early. The store also has a very good return policy if for whatever reason you are not satisfied with your order. Anyway enter the contest and don't forget to buy your costume!

Guck Foogle - Screw Google - Same Thing Different Words

It is interesting that just recently Jeremy "ShoeMoney" Schoemaker, in his keynote speech at IzeaFest, talked about having a Screw Google Mentality. Now in his recent article about the same topic he reminds people that you must take the remarks within the context of being a successful webmaster.

Basically if people pretended like Google never existed or like they were blacklisting in Google its the best thing they could ever do. This applies from many things Google… From SEO to AdSense. - Shoemoney
Around this time last year when the whole paid link no-follow google PR update issue was big I wrote a satirical viral linking article I titled Guck Foogle - Give Google A Virus. I don't blog for approval from google. I don't blog to increase my PR. I blog for readers and ultimately to make money. My attitude is screw google, and has been for quite a while.

Now the response I got was pretty much as expected as far as the viral marketing goes. I really wasn't looking for that to do anything as the point of the article was satire not actual viral marketing. I did however get an interesting comment about the article. Here is the comment -
This is the kind of idiocy people expect with publishers milking google's system.

First off, it's Google's search engine, not Google itself that f*cked you and everyone living off the High PR so if you have a highly trafficked site you're bound to be unaffected unless you start buying/selling links. I see Google's PR update as a way to restart an already saturated market and people like you start jumping about it talking about a switch. I remind you it's a SEARCH ENGINE. You get hits on how good your SEO is not your PR.

Secondly what good will your post do? Oh I know viral linking. No thanks, I hate pingback/trackback spam especially from money making sites who's out to make money for themselves.

Thirdly, might I remind you that your blog is still working on the Blogger system which is a Google company. Even if your content is hosted on a server that you own they can still kill your site because it's inevitably tied with Google.

Fourthly, revenue from ANY PPC program is highly dependent on your traffic. If 90% of your traffic comes from social networking sites then don't bother. You're only going to get clicking at a rate of about 1/10000 hits.

Fifthly, if you still haven't noticed blogrush is a scam so I suggest dropping it.
Here is my response (just a note I don't get nearly as much traffic from blogrush as I was back then ;)) -
Wow did you miss the point!!!

Okay I know it is a search engine I use everyday. In fact it is my home page. I haven't been f*cked by google the search engine, adwords, gmail, blogger etc... I do believe however that Google is f*cking themselves by f*cking around with everyone's pagerank. They are making PR an insignificant metric in the blogging world. I had a PR3 before moving to my own domain, and now I am unranked, which I don't have a problem with. I am getting more traffic than ever and revenue is higher than ever as well.

I actually get a good amount of hits from google because I have good SEO on this site. I also get quite a few hits from yahoo, ask, snap, and all the rest. Google is only about 25% of total search engine traffic for me.

To your second point. The post is voluntary. Don't like it don't participate. Hell, you don't even have to spend the time commenting. But you did, so the post was effective wasn't it? Now maybe that was the point?

Thirdly I'm getting old but not yet senile so I do know that my blog is still working off the blogger system. I do actually log in about everyday. Thanks for reminding me though, that would be a bad thing to forget.

Fourthly, thanks for stating the obvious. I thought you could make money on PPC ads without traffic or clicks. Damn that is what I've been doing wrong. I'll have to get right on that. Although my CTR is muuuuch higher than 1/10000.

Fifthly, I get about 5 times more traffic a month from Blogrush than I do from Google at absolutely no cost. I guess I missed the scam part. You weren't so obvious on this point as the last one.

Well it has been nice chatting with you. And thanks for commenting. Now maybe you get the point.
The conversation continued with this poor excuse for a response :)
Actually no.
Using your sarcastic comment on my 4th point means your much more of a troll than I am.
Too which I responded, with my usual wit I might add,
Wow and you still don't get it. The point of the post was satirical not literal. Well I do thank you for reading, although based on your last comment you don't read my blog enough, which you should remedy. I do have, just a very tiny bit mind you, a sarcastic bent to my humor.

Again thanks for reading. I have to get back to milking the teet of google. Oh yeah and being a troll. Good thing I sold some beer today, actually a hell of a lot, or I would be in a bad mood. Dang that 66% CTR and 5% STC
This site has been basically blacklisted by google and I have survived. Now granted the site took a hit when I wasn't blogging very regularly but, I have been on a bit of a comeback lately. What is your opinion in this debate? Do you agree with me and Shoe?

Big Bloggers Mentioned In US News & World Report

I always like to see the big money bloggers getting exposure. It really just helps the whole blogging community. It lends us credibility and drives traffic. I was perusing the pages of US News & World Report a while back and read an article about making money blogging. In the article they mentioned John Chow, Steve Pavlina and others. I came across the article again today and decided to pass it along to those of you who haven't read it. What do you think of this article? Do you feel that exposure like this benefits just those covered or the blogging community as a whole?

Get Organized And Blog Better

I mentioned a while back that I was moving. At least I think I did. If not I am moving. One of the reasons that I am moving is so that I have a proper place for my kids. Yep in case you missed I have to wonderful children. Well now that I am back I have the task of getting moved, getting the kids situated in a new school, and getting settled in. I will be a little farther from work but closer to my family so there is some upside.

While moving I decided it would be a great time to get the kids things and my stuff reorganized. I have started sorting through clothes, papers, books, dishes, and everything else to cull out what isn't needed. Not only that, necessity warrants a bit of downsizing as space is more of a premium in the new digs.

I pretty much have my stuff done now and I am moving on to the kid's things. Between the old stuff and the new stuff I have been purchasing for school it hasn't been easy. I have been using my DYMO Labelmaker and labeling the crap out of things. I went and bought storage bins, shelving, different hangers and such to help with the organization. It is no small task let me tell you.

I've also been trying to get my daughter a little more organized for school this year. She has had a bit of a problem in the past with keeping her things organized. This has caused a few problems with late and lost assignments. Not good. I have been getting her set up with folders for each class labeled with nice color labels. I have her a little work area set up with labeled areas for different assignments. Things are coming along nicely.

Surprisingly enough both kids seem to be really enjoying school. I know it might sound funny but I have always enjoyed school and looked forward to it toward the end of summer as well. I know several weeks before I would start organizing things. You know dragging out the book bag, setting up your "TrapperKeeper", that sort of thing. All in preparation for the first day.

Now that I have started to get a handle on the personal side of life I REALLY need to get to organizing the work side of life a bit. I have not been blogging very regularly and miss all of the interaction with all of you. I really have been working trying to get back to blogging more since February and it has just been tough. The affiliate marketing has been going well, but that takes so little time now compared to blogging that I have just let this fall by the wayside.

Speak And Your Blog Will Listen

I have this wonderful little program for my iPhone that transcribes spoken word into text. It is called Jott and it is free via the iTunes store. I was using this the other day and thought that wouldn't it be wonderful if I could blog while( Brett Bumeter for pointing out my poor grammar)driving, working out, cooking dinner, or other activities. I know there are times I have flashes of inspiration and I wish I could just get them down on paper. If I could just talk and have my words transcribed for me and then just paste them right into an article it could really be a time saver. What are your thoughts on this?

Well I have found a program that does this and wanted to pass that information along to all of you. Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Preferred allows you to not only turn speech into text, but you can use your voice to actually control your common applications like Word, Outlook Express, and Internet Explorer. You can even use it to search the internet or your computer. This reminds me a bit of those Ford Sync commercials. Do you need to find some information for an article you are writing? You can quickly search by saying "Search the Web for affiliate marketing articles," and boom you have results. Now Tell me that wouldn't make research for your articles easier and faster.

This blog is about blogging for profit and doing in it a productive manner. Now most people type less than 40 words a minute, but they speak over 120 words per minute. People would tend to say I talk a bit more ;). Basically that means you can create your blog posts, documents and e-mails about three times faster using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Now I'm sure you won't get the full 3x boost but you will certainly be able to research and compose a blog post much faster. How is that for productive blogging?

Now the Preferred version I have discussed here is $199.99, which honestly to me seems a bit steep. They do have Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 Standard which is only $99.99 but has been stripped of some features. I don't really see where there is a $100 dollar improvement between the two and would like to see a price closer to $150 for the preferred version. Other than the price issue, which I think is a bit steep, I think this program would be extremely helpful to any blogger from new to advanced. Anyway, if you have been looking for something to help you be more productive in your blogging and computer work in general this program is certainly something to consider. Check out a demo of some of it's functionality in the video below and for some more information check out the NY Times Review of DNS10.

Affiliate Blogging In An Ethical Manner

I have had discussion with fellow bloggers many times on the topic of affiliate marketing via our blogs, paid posting, and paid reviews. Many times the question of ethics comes up and whether or not a blogger promoting products and services can be done in an ethical manner. As an affiliate marketer and a blogger I regularly post about products and services with which I have a relationship. I also do paid posting and reviews. I do have a disclosure policy in place and link to it from my main page.

I came across an article today on this very topic and so as not to duplicate I will link over to the article and let you read it. It is on Blogging Tips and the article is Ethics of Affiliate Blogging. The only thing I might have a small issue with from this article is linking to the disclosure policy in each post. Many of the paid posting opps want site wide disclosure only and this in post disclosure would eliminate some very lucrative offers. Another recent article on this topic, Can You Make Money Online Without Lying?, can be found over at Entrepreneurs-Journey.com Anyway let me know what your thoughts are on the topic in general and as it relates to this blog.

Do You Accept Credit Cards?

If you are selling products online direct to customers you should have a merchant account. If you are using PayPal, which I know a lot of folks do, you are being ripped on if you are doing even a moderate amount. Here’s a low cost, hassle-free solution for credit card processing. OnlineChecks offers an unusual program, most companies say they have the best merchant services, but we honestly do. No fees, no contracts, and a free credit card machine.

If you have ever looked into getting a merchant account and setting up credit card processing you know that it is a very unusual offer. Most of the time you are having a lease pushed on you, and those offering free terminals usually still have high fees. Not only do they give you a free machine, not charge any fees, and no lease contracts, but you can try the service for free. Here is what you get:

* Virtual Terminal - Free! (Process transactions from any PC - A $195.00 Value)
* Credit Card Processing Terminal - Free! (A $295.00 Value!)
* 30 Day Free Trial
* Accept: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Cards*

New Winter Olympic Sport! Ice Blogging!

Okay so it really isn't but come on could it be any more boring than curling? Anyway I came across this picture of ice boxing and thought it was kinda funny and decided to post it. I figured what the heck expand our horizons :)... I have decided to expand the postings on my blogs a bit and see what happens. I know I am breaking a cardinal rule of blogging. I have been spotty with posting and traffic has fallen quite a bit and so I decided to try and bring a few new readers in and then go from there.

Exclusive - Get 25% Off Marketing Materials At Vista.com

I just wanted to share a few free or low cost ideas on ways to market your online ventures offline. Many bloggers overlook the benefits of promoting offline as well. If you can implement some offline marketing strategies with little or no money that is even better. If you are trying to make money online you certainly don't want to be spending large sums of money offline it just isn't practical for the return you get.

Free Offline Marketing Method #1

Do a Google search for customized ink pens, customized promotional items, or something along those lines. You will obviously get a ton of results. Just start clicking on some of the results focusing on sites that offer free samples, or that have a print catalog. In my experience you have the best luck with those. Remember you want free! Okay now that you have found a few go ahead and register with the site. You want them to send you their catalog in the mail. The reason why is that every month or so they also send free samples of featured items from pens to calendars. The cool thing about most of them is that the samples sent are imprinted with your business details. Voila free marketing materials. If you do this for several you can build up quite a nice collection of pens and such. Now granted I have actually ordered a few small lots of customized pens to market various businesses, but I receive anywhere from 5-10 customized promotional items a month. Passing these along to folks is a great way to garner new visitors to your site and to spark conversation about what you are doing.

Free Offline Marketing Method #2

You may have heard of Vista.com and their free business card offers, but did you know they also offer a wide array of printing services including, business cards, checks, rubber stamps, announcements, , and car magnets! You can customize all of their products to your liking! Getting some of their basic business cards made up for your blog is a great offline marketing tool. You can pass them out to friends and family or to people you meet. See the last one on the list? It is that time of year and if you or a child are graduating getting some free announcements is a great deal. If you are interested in the free stuff here are some things VistaPrint does offer for free.

Free Business Cards
Free Rubber Stamps
Free Sticky Notes
Free Checks
Free Logo Design

In addition to the free stuff VistaPrint offers a wide array of printing services including: business cards, checks, rubber stamps, announcements, and car magnets! You can customize all of their products to your liking! Their premium printing services are very affordable and the service is great. If you have only ever done the free stuff and haven't tried out any of VistaPrint's premium services you really should check them out and you won't be disappointed.

There you go....two ways to get some great offline marketing materials for your blog. The best thing is they are free and customized marketing and promotional items.

If A Blogger Falls In A Forest, DoThey Make A Sound?

If your blog falls would anybody know? If you stopped posting and never updated your blog from this moment on would anyone care or notice? Do you ever feel like you are just blogging for only you? Are you blogging just for you?

It is something to think about. There are literally millions of blogs with thousands started every day. There are probably thousands of blogs on just about any topic you can imagine. People typing away at their computers in their little corner of the world all trying to impact someone else with words. Are they making any difference whatsoever? Does it matter? Have you started a blog only to let it die? Have you ever tried to resurrect a dead blog?

Okay if a blog like Problogger or  John Chow went away people would notice as they are "mega" blogs especially in the make-money-online crowd. What about blogs like this one? How about the middle-to-upper blogs like My Wooden Spoon, Pajama Professional, Benjamin Patton, or Standout Blogger? What about the obscure blogs like this one or Blogging 4 Everyone, x7SEO, Dorm Earning, or Blue Mushrooms?

Sometimes having a blog for no one other than yourself is perfectly okay. If other people choose to read it so be it. If they don't, oh well. Writing and getting thoughts to page is very therapeutic. So go ahead and blog. If you are looking to make money you want as many people to read as possible...If not just don't give a rat's patootie and write.

If You Make It Don't Waste It

If you are going to go to all the trouble to make money online don't waste it. Don't run up credit cards. Don't spend money just on needless gadgets and what not. Unless you are making a killing, but even then it is boneheaded to live above your means. Why do you all think we are in this so-called "mortgage crisis?" People not knowing, and in many cases, not caring to know their limits.

If for whatever reason you have gotten yourself in over your head and you haven't damaged your credit beyond that of being able to still obtain a loan you might want to consider debt consolidation. With rates still around 6% and in some cases even lower now would be the time. Not only that with the uncertainty of the economy and the market in general having money in savings is absolutely necessary.

Debt consolidation has many variations, from services like debt management, debt settlement, or credit counseling to debt consolidation loans and mortgage refinancing. Typically, you should look at how much you can afford a month and what your credit rating is. If you can afford to make your payments and have equity in your home, then look to consolidate debts with a loan or refinance. If you can afford 2.5% of the face value of your debts, then look to credit counseling. If you have impaired credit and want the lowest payment, then seek debt settlement providers.

The best option really depends on your situation. If you aren't sure you should probably talk with a loan specialist, a debt counseling company, and a debt settlement provider and gather information. Then run your credit, look at your budget and then make an informed decision on which avenue to take. Like I said, now is a great time to start saving yourself money every month and not waste what you have and are being blessed with.

Thank You As A Marketing Tool

How many times as a kid did you hear your parents remind you to say please and thank you? How many times have you as a parent said exactly the same thing? Why do so many people have problems saying a simple thanks? Are we so busy and distracted in our lives that we just don't think about it anymore?

I can't tell you how many times in just the last several days where I have simply held a door, or when I stopped a cart from hitting a vehicle, helped pick a display knocked over by a child, and the person did not say a simple thanks. Oft times they are in such a hurry they quickly speed on their way and ignore the fact that a fellow human being just took some time to lend a hand. In our society we have become so quick to wine and moan when things don't go right, service is bad, or mistakes happen. Conversely we have become MUCH too slow in saying a thanks when things simply go right, service is exceptional, or someone lends a helping hand.

Teach your kids to be friendly and the importance of saying thank you. Did they get a product they really liked, or maybe someone helped them in some way? Remind them and help them to say thanks. Sit down with them and cut out and draw a personalized thank you card to their teacher, family member, anyone that has impacted their life in a positive way. Lead by example and be a happy thankful person. We are so blessed and we need to always remember to thank God and our fellow man for making our lives such.

I have made it a practice that whenever I get above average service to communicate that message to the service providers superiors. For instance, in restaurants I see people calling managers over all the time complaining about service, food quality or other issues. Don't get me wrong there is certainly nothing wrong with valid issues and I have lodged many a complaint. My point is that on the flip side I have also seen where a customer received exceptional service with nary a peep of thanks to the server or a manager. We should be quicker with a thank you than a complaint.

Sorry I will step down of the soap box and get to my point. Sincere simple gratitude, whether a spoken thanks, thank you cards, a small gift, or other, is a phenomenal marketing tool for your blog. Had a visitor stop by and leave a great comment, say thanks by stopping by their blog and returning the favor, mentioning the comment in another post, dropping them an email. A fellow blogger helped you out in some way, write about and say thanks. Thanking your readers, people that have commented, subscribers, or anyone that has helped you out in any way, is an incredible way to market your blog and yourself. As they say in VeggieTales a thankful heart is a happy heart ;)....
