Bank Of The Internet - Another Reason I Love Affiliate Marketing

Here it is the Holiday season. Did you know that Halloween is second only to Christmas in dollars spent? That is crazy. Anyway if you are like me you could probably stand to have a few extra dollars around this time of year. Let me tell you how I do it. In addition to this blog I do affiliate marketing. Do you do any affiliate marketing? What have been your most successful programs. I have been involved in affiliate marketing for several years and it has been very good to me. Here is an example.

Today I received an e-mail from one of the affiliate programs I represent. Here is the news from the email that really caught my attention.
With our great success the last two months of our bonus offer we have decided to extend it and make it even better! Each month we will pay every affiliate a $500 bonus if they generate at least 7 transactions in that given month.
You see in addition to the normal commissions many affiliate programs are always running some kind of incentive program. Set bonuses like the one above, percentage increases, and more. This particular program only requires 7 transactions in a month to qualify for the $500 bonus. That # really isn't that hard to hit. The commissions from the 7 sales with the bonus would be around $8-900. Even if your ads sucked, you picked broad keywords, and had a low CTR, you should see a very very good return on your advertising dollar. Have you ever qualified for a bonus? The Internet And Its Impact On The Climate Change Debate

What is your opinion on climate change? Do you feel global warming is a result of human activity? What impact do you feel the Internet and blogging in particular has had on the climate change debate?

I know that the Internet and blogging in particular has been having a large impact in the political realm and in certainly in the area of public energy policy and how it relates to climate change. The blogosphere has been able to create buzz and even generate large amounts of funds for candidates and their energy policy initiatives. This is just one more area where I feel blogging and the Internet "new media" has been having a substantial impact.

The other day I came across a pretty cool site, EnergyPolicyTV, that has a large collection of videos related to alternative fuels, climate change, energy policy, and many more related topics. I was looking for some information on clean diesel and found one of the videos on this site. The videos are from a variety of sources and it seems they are from both sides of the debate and include governmental officials, non-profit groups, and corporate sources.

After browsing around and watching bits and pieces of quite a few videos, I would have to say the one that caught my attention the most was a short video on Who Owns "Big Oil"? Former Clinton energy official Robert Shapiro investigated who really owns these "big oil" companies. It was found that almost 85% of these companies is owned by private pension plans, retirement accounts, and mutual funds, and not just a "privileged few." I know the results were a bit surprising to me.

Today I just felt like writing something a bit different and encourage my fellow citizen bloggers that you can and are making a difference. The public and private sectors alike are beginning to see the power of the blogosphere and how it can generate buzz around an issue and really build grass roots support. Regardless of where you stand in the climate change debate, energy policy needs to change. If you are looking for some good information on the issue stop by the EnergyPolicyTV site and watch a few of their videos. It is the best site I found for videos on the climate change and energy policy debate. I did wonder though about who was behind the site?

What impact if any do you feel the blogosphere and the Internet in general has played in the climate change debate? Do you feel that the blogosphere and the Internet "new media" has had an impact on public energy policy?

Tuesday Toast - To All My Readers

I have never been one for memes but today I felt like it so here goes. I first ran across this Tuesday Toast thing when I was toasted last week by Lori at A Cowboy's Wife. Which meant a lot by the way.

Today I wanted to toast all of my readers for your support and for all of your contributions to this blog. I have said it before, but I will say it again. You all have made this blog what it is as much as any content I have written. Thank you all and Here's To All Of You!

Building, Remodeling, Flipping?

As some of you may know I also do real-estate investing. I tend to gravitate toward the lower end, but on occasion I move on up to the east side. There is a big difference in what you can put into a house in the low to low-middle market and the high-mid to high market. The expectations of the end buyer are different and yes brand recognition makes a difference. I don't put granite in a house under 200 and I don't put laminate in a house over. You can use the internet to make and save you money even in this line of work.

The two areas that make the most impact and where you will most likely spend the biggest part of your budget are the kitchen and bathrooms. One thing I use to impress higher end buyers is high end high quality brand name faucets in these areas. The kind you won't find at Depot or Lowe's. Yep name dropping even works when it comes to selling homes. I usually do my price comparisons online and most of the time also buy them online. One site I frequent is Faucet.com. They have brands you are probably familiar with like Kohler and Moen, but also have the high end brands like Franke, ShowHouse, and the Grohe faucet line. Believe me put in Grohe faucets and it will make a big impression on higher end buyers, and stopping by Faucet.com will save you some money as no store I have found locally sells them for less.

You see the Internet is a tool you can use to make and save money in all aspects of life and business. Use it to your advantage. You can save on faucets to checking accounts and everything in between.

The Ghost Of Ashwins Past

Wow some people are beyond pale. Here I am just coming off a somewhat major illness, making life changing decisions, quitting blogging, selling the site, and what response do I get? I get an email not wishing me well, but attacking me using somewhat harsh language and accusing me of pulling an Ashwin with the current contest. I am only giving away $50 bucks. Chillax I'm good for it.

Here is my response to the email. SUCK IT! My actual response really wouldn't have been appropriate. Okay, first it is my blog and I'll do what I want with it. Second, I have been completely honest and upfront with contests and have always lived up to my word. Third, where in my last post did the word contest appear, and where in relation to that was a change in said contest mentioned? Funny thing is after tracking the persons entry it wasn't a valid entry anyway. He, oops, or she should have followed the rules.

I have also decided that due to the length of the contest, and to give this guy(or gal) the finger, I am going to allow all previous entries to enter a second time if they wish. I am even going to make it very very very easy. NO LINKS NO POSTS. 1 COMMENT ONLY. Simply comment to this post with your second entry and include the link to your first entry. That is it. You will then have two chances to win. The drawing will be held tomorrow. Good luck to all of you.

Oh what the heck, I am feeling generous today and not only that I sold a bunch of beer yesterday so I'm flush. I will give 5$ to the first person to leave a comment.

Credit Woes? Use The Internet To Your Benefit

Has the real estate market and credit crunch touched your life? If you are like millions of people around the country and have had your credit dinged a bit lately, don't fret. The Internet is a great place to get bad credit loans.

I came across a great source for folks with dinged credit while doing some searching for information on another blog I run. The site is BadCreditOffers.Com. Instead of getting shafted by the crappy offers that come through the mail the site allows you to compare dozens of bad credit offers from major providers and find the best offer to fit your needs. It is really nice to be able to compare offers side by side and really find the best deal and what fits your situation. The site also offers quite a bit of information in credit repair.

Before you restructure old debt or acquire new credit you should always check your credit report. You should do this several times a year and with all 3 agencies as they can vary greatly.

Cman Quits! Site 4 Sale!

I just want to start by saying thanks to all of you my readers. You have made this blog what it is, as much as any content I have written. Due to some life changing decisions I have made the painful decision to stop blogging. I love doing this very much and will miss writing and interacting with all of you. This blog has had a decent amount of success over the last 6 months and I have enjoyed every minute. I encourage all of you to continue and have a profitable and productive blogging career.

Thank you all for reading. I have enjoyed the journey and all of the friends I have met along the way. I just want to say a big thanks to a special blogger, Lori of Blogging With Cents, for being more of a help and inspiration to me than she knows. She has kept me on my toes and forced me to get better. Thanks and here is a toast to you. Also a shout to Kevin @ Blogging Tips for being an encouragement and a model blogger which I hold in high esteem. Finally to Bloggrrl, for her interaction with this site and for her sense of humor.

I have decided to put the site up for sale to give someone the opportunity to continue to build on the foundation I have established. The site just got a good PR of 3-4, is in the Technorati top 10k, has a 45n5 rank of 159, 115 RSS(give or take a few each day) and has roughly 10,000 page views a month with about 7,000 unique visitors. The site is earning in the neighborhood of $1,000 per month, from contextual advertising, ad sales, paid posting, and affiliate sales. If you are interested I am taking offers and can verify stats and earnings if you wish. Please Contact Me with your bid or questions. Updates and answers to questions will be posted in the coming days via my RSS feed. If you would like to keep up with the bidding and the Q&A please subscribe to the site feed. God bless.

The Logic of Spock - The Search For Darren Rowse

Several days ago I came across a new, online since April, niche search engine. Spock is a people search application. You can search for family, friends, celebrities, really just about anyone. Spock combines two very powerful forces. First, it organizes web content about people into easily understood search results. Information is gleaned from bio pages, social networks, news sites, blogs, directories ...pretty much every place imaginable on the Internet. Second, the Spock community contributes information to help enhance the search experience. Members can add tags, pictures, and web links or simply vote on existing information to increase its relevance. Anyone can join to help make search better for everyone. This is not a social network. They are not trying to be a social network. Spock is a people search application - once you find who you are looking for, go ahead and click through to see where they are on the web. The way it appears to me and a good way for you to picture how it works is to compare it with Technorati only with people. The setup, to me at least, is very similar only you are searching for a person or information on that person instead of a blog or blog article.

Now one thing that I really like about the search engine is that, like Technorati, you can claim your search result. The best way to do this is to register and then log in to your account. You can claim results by entering in additional email addresses you have, social networking accounts, etc.. When you do a search the results are linked to external sources such as social networks and email addresses. By entering your information you claim these results, which will give you maximum control over your Spock identity. Once your account is setup you can then change and edit what is shown for your results, including contact information. You really can shape what information people see. Plus, when there is new information about you on the Internet they send an alert so you are always up to date. To me this is crucial as at first I really had an issue with privacy.

I registered with Spock and then did a couple of searches to get a feel for how it worked. Then decided to see what would come up when searching for prominent bloggers such as Darren Rowse. I decided to feature him to show you a bit more how exactly the search engine works. I typed in Darren Rowse hit search, and was given a list of results. Now a really cool feature is that you can generate a widget for the results. Here is the widget for my search of Darren Rowse. The url for the search results is http://www.spock.com/q/darren-rowse. For some reason though the results aren't showing up until you hit the more results link.

To give you another quick example here is the widget for when I searched for my name. I think this might be a bit of a better example of how the widget works. None of these are me, but was pretty cool to see how many Johnathan Longs there are floating around.

Now not only can you create a widget of the broad search results you can also create a widget for single entries. After searching for Darren Rowse, and browsing through the list of results I clicked on the first one to see the information for that result. Once you do that you can create a widget for that single entry. Here is the single entry widget on Darren Rowse.

Now you can also search for characteristics such as vegetarian, blue eyes, or blonde hair, or a combination such as short fat ugly. I did several combinations similar and was somewhat amused by the results. Although I don't know that the people that came up after I searched for some things would be too thrilled.

Head on over to Spock.com and check out the search engine. Type in your own name and see what comes up. Did you find yourself? Register and then log in and begin the process of shaping the information that will be seen when you are searched for. Do you think there are any privacy issues raised by a free search engine like this?

GreenRoad - Can A Website Increase Your Safety 54%

I came across a cool new Silicon Valley startup company GreenRoad that has developed technology that measures driving safety and they claim it can reduce car crashes by 54%. What I found very interesting is the device that goes in the car that can detect driving "maneuvers" to assess safety level, and then transmits that data to an Internet site that lets drivers see where they need to improve. It gives a color of red for bad drivers and green for good drivers. I really think it is amazing how the internet has penetrated almost every aspect of life even driving.

The technology is a combination of metric reporting back to the website and non-invasive in-vehicle coaching to help change driver behavior instantly. Not knowing for sure how this works, I would assume it would be some sort of a voice prompt. This seems pretty cool, unless of course you are a crazy driver then the thing would most likely chirp at you quite a bit. I would be curious to see exactly how non-invasive it was.

From what I gather from the website and some of the news releases I read on the company, their technology is aimed mostly at fleets and insurance companies.
By working with GreenRoad, insurance companies can reduce claim costs, have
increased confidence when insuring high risk drivers, and create marketing
programs that increase customer loyalty and retention.
What do you think about this technology? Would you like your driving habits reported back to your insurance manager or boss? Do you think the non-invasive in-vehicle coaching would really just be a distraction or a plus? Would you simply get annoyed and drive worse? I personally think it would be a positive for fleets.

Google PageRank Doesn't Matter? I Don't Think Everyone Else Got The Memo Yet

I turn on my computer today, open the browser and as soon as the home page loads I am bombarded with PageRank this and PageRank that. I read articles of bloggers lamenting their PR drop and articles saying that PR doesn't matter. There were articles talking about the evolution of PR and TrustRank and all that stuff. After reading all this about how PR is no longer important and doesn't matter I as sure I would open my email inbox and see a bunch of paypal notices where my advertisers had sent me extra money. Alas I have not seen any such notices today. I highly doubt I would see those notices even if I sent an email out to all of my advertisers informing them of an immediate increase in ad prices and citing the fact that all these prominent bloggers have all said that PR doesn't matter.

Well here is the memo for all of my advertisers and readers and affiliate programs and the like. PR doesn't matter. I have consistently maintained a 30 day moving average of close to 10,000 pageviews with roughly 7000 uniques for almost 90 days now. I still don't have a PR yet and I can't seem to really gain much Alexa traction. Because of this PR issue I have yet to get anywhere with TLA, even with my good traffic numbers I haven't been able to garner higher ad prices, and in general I get dinged for not having a good PR. I also get denied by certain In-Line ad programs and others citing low PR, well granted I don't have my own domain either. Today though was good news for me as PageRank no longer matters. Now to just get the memo in the right hands.

Internet Phone Service - Is It For You?

I have not had a home land line phone for almost 10 years now, and rely strictly on cellular communication. I have over the past several months been looking into the possibility of VOIP Internet Phone service using my broadband connection. Would you or have you considered VOIP service? I have checked into Vonage and Skype and also another site I came across with pretty good rates iConnectHere.com. They seem to have really good prices compared to vonage. I did some checking on them and the site is the direct to consumer side of deltathree. Deltathree is a publicly traded, NASDAQ I believe, company and is a leading provider of integrated VOIP solutions and private label VOIP. I checked into the financials and they seem pretty sound. The stock has taken a hit over the last year but overall they seem financially sound.

iConnectHere.com offers pc-to-phone, like Skype, and phone-to-phone, like vonage, VOIP service. I compared their prices and features against the big dogs Vonage and Skype to see how they stacked up. Their per minute rates overall seem much better than Skype. Comparison to Vonage is a bit trickier though.

Vonage offers several packages with the most popular being the advertised unlimited calling with lots of features for $24.99. This to me seemed to high for what I was wanting although granted it is lower than normal residential service through say ATT. Now Vonage also offers a $14.99 plan that has 500 included minutes and 3.9¢ after that. Now for me this was a little better. I still thought that the 500 minutes was more than I would ever need and felt I would be paying for minutes and service I didn't need. The other drawback as that you lose some features when stepping down to the lower priced plan. The prices from Vonage always are what kept me from signing up. I know, I know $15 isn't much but why should I pay for something I don't use?

Well that is the reason I am leaning toward iConnectHere.com. They have only a $6.99 monthly fee and pay-as-you-go minutes. So I did a comparison based on their per minute price of 2.0¢ for US calls vs. 2.4¢ for Skype and Vonage doesn't offer per minute pay as you go. Okay so comparing the $24.99 Vonage package against the iConnectHere setup I would have to use more than 900 minutes a month to go over the 24.99. I will never come close to using that many minutes on a home phone so in this comparison iConnectHome works out cheaper. Comparing the Vonage basic of $14.99 with 500 minutes against iConnectHere shows that If I used all 500 minutes then Vonage would actually be a slightly better deal. Though even 500 minutes is more than I would use so in this case at less than 500 minutes iConnectHere comes out cheaper.

iConnectHere offers has a 30 day guarantee, free phone adapter, and a $30 dollar bonus. They offer the low flat rate of only $6.99 with a pay as you go per minute setup. For me I figured about 150 - 200 minutes max per month. So my monthly cost would be $6.99 + (200 * 0.02) = $10.99. This would be my high end and you can see that it is cheaper than anything Vonage offers. The features comparison is pretty much a was so for me it really comes down to price and in that arena iConnectHere wins.

The website was nice and clean and easy to navigate. The FAQ was very complete and answered all of the questions that I had. There was a very nice video demonstrating how the Internet phone to phone service would be setup and work in the home., This was great in answering many questions. My only issue really was that there was some ambiguity what they differences were between the PC to phone and Internet phone to phone services that I think might be confusing.

Would you or have you considered VOIP service? Do you use or know anyone that uses VIOP service? What is your experience? Do you like or dislike it? Let me know.

Hold The Horns While I Milk The Cow - Or One Reason Why My Blog Is Better Than A Cow

BlogRush Cleans House

Well, well, well, It has been an eventful weekend but now it is back to the grind. Stopping by my inbox this morning to peruse the weekend mail and I see an email from the BlogRush crew. I figured it was probably another email about why the dashboard wasn't working or why my content wasn't being served properly, but no it was an email singing praises about this wonderful blog. Here read it in their own words.
Congratulations! You are receiving this update because your blog has passed our strict Quality Guidelines and criteria -- we believe you have a high-quality blog and we are happy you're a member of our network![emphasis added]

I knew I was good but wow now it is confirmed by a third party that I have a "high-quality" blog. At least John Reese and the boys (and girls) think I do. Well after reading this and busting the stitches on my hat I continued farther into the email. Here is where it gets interesting. Not only are they telling me what a "high-quality" fellow I am they are telling me how a bunch of you suck. !gasp! Yep, you read it right. BlogRush says that over 10,000 of you suck and are not "high-quality" like me. They cleaned house and eliminated blogs that couldn't cut it.
We've just completed a massive SWEEP of our entire network. We've removed over *10,000* blogs (Yes, ten thousand) that did not meet our new Quality Guidelines.[emphasis added]
Well that seems like a good idea to me. Get rid of the pyrite so there is no mistaking the gold. Did you make it through the BlogRush quality audit? This house cleaning will hopefully improve the articles being served up by blogrush, or at least the blogs.
You will notice the HUGE DIFFERENCE in the quality of blogs that now appear in your widget. This major *sweep* of our network will also increase the click-rates across the entire network and you will start to receive more traffic.
Well I sure hope so. I have been very disappointed in BlogRush. After the all they hype, to me, it just never quite got there. So now that BlogRush will be better since they kept a "high-quality" blog like mine around what are they going to do next?

They are stating that they are in the process of rolling out their "massive "Phase 2" upgrade to BlogRush. In the next few days..." Finally! I haven't had a dashboard since signing up. So we can all be expecting a new dashboard and new categories which should help with article relevancy. One thing they mentioned was a new "Thin Widget" option. Thank you BlogRush. That is one thing that has bothered me from the beginning. The widget fits in my sidebar but I visited quite a few "top" blogs and noticed the widget being cut off in the slimmer sidebars. How unprofessional of them. Maybe that is why I'm still here and they aren't ;).

I smoked a Brisket or Hold the horns while I milk the cow

Well the morning got even better as I was running through my feeds and noticed an article titled Banned From BlogRush. I clicked to read and saw it was from JohnCow.com. It looks as though John Reese and the team put the Cow out to pasture. Why? you ask. Their blog "did NOT meet BlogRush's[sic] strict quality guidelines." Now to me this doesn't make much sense. I think JohnCow.com is a pretty good blog, but according to the BlogRush team I am better. What do you think of BlogRush removing JohnCow.com? The Cow doesn't seem to quite get why they were removed either. According to the Cow they have over 1000 direct referalls into BlogRush, including JohnChow. This would seem to be a bad move on the part of BlogRush. I also noticed as did Mr. Cow that Reese turned off comments shortly after Mr. Cow published his rebuttal on the removal. I agree with Cow WTF Mr. Reese?

Did you make it through the BlogRush quality audit? What do you think of BlogRush removing JohnCow.com? What about BlogRush in general? Do you think the changes will save BlogRush?

Make Some Extra Money Using Your Credit Cards

I am all about making the most money and making that money work for me and make me the most money. The less I have to do and the more my money can do for me the better. That is my approach to credit cardsCredit cards if used properly are a very useful, and sometimes, necessary part of life. Credit has become so easily attainable that it has become a large problem for a large amount of people, we are seeing the results of that in the mortgage market now. What do I mean by that?

Don't carry a balance! Unless there is a legit emergency you should never carry an interest accruing balance on your credit card. Don't throw money down the drain, which is essentially what you are doing if you are paying interest on your gas, food, gadgets, or whatever else you put on there. If you don't have the money don't charge it. If you must charge it don't charge so much that you can't pay it off. If you won't be able to pay it off don't buy it, again unless it is a legit emergency.

If you have a balance currently then take advantage of interest free credit cards and balance transfers. This allows you a bit of extra time to pay down a balance. Don't use the interest free rate and period as an excuse to charge more or to only pay the minimum. This only works against you. Pay as much as you can and eliminate the debt before the intro low rate expires.

If you are brave and disciplined enough you can leverage your credit as a money making tool instead of having it be a drain. I had a friend of mine that explained this practice to me and how he was making literally $1000's per year off of his credit cards. I started doing what he told me and now I am making $1000's extra per year off the credit card companies. Let me explain.

If you are like me you probably get tons of credit offers in the mail all with varying intro rates and periods. I only look at the interest free offers and ones that tend to be over 6 months work the best with 3 months really being the minimum. Okay here is the trick. You can leverage your credit line for the 0% period to earn you interest via some other medium. I don't recommend the stock market as this is a bit too much risk exposure. I recommend high interest, short term CD's, or high interest money markets(paypal actually is a pretty good choice). Okay here is an example. Say you have an offer for a 0% card. You apply and get approved for a $10,000 limit with a 12 month intro period. I would leverage $8000 of that available balance and place it into a 9 month CD or a money market earning say 5%. You would earn approximately $300 dollars. Do this each year with about $40 - $50,000(my friend does more) and earn usually no less than $2000 extra per year. All for doing pretty much nothing and all in essence free. You can leverage this even further if the card is a perks card.

Let your credit be a useful tool and not a burden. Don't spend and use credit where you can't afford to. Stop wasting money padding some companies bank account and let your credit work for you not against you. Credit cards when used properly are great useful and necessary tools. Well there you go that is what I think about credit cards.

The October Contest Extension

I just wanted to pass along this bit of news concerning the October contest. Don't worry folks I'm not pulling an ashwin. I contracted a very serious skin infection and have been in in the hospital and really haven't felt like blogging or assigning numbers and drawing winners, etc.. I have decided to simply extend the contest through the end of the month. Thank you all for you patience. I am doing well and should be back in the swing of things come the first of the week.

Increase PageViews Through Intelligent Tagging

I saw this news release several days ago and went and checked out the site. I have signed up but have not implemented the program on any of my blogs yet. I thought that it would be well worth sharing with all of you. If you are looking for an easy way to cross link articles and sites this is certainly something you want to take a look at.

Information On How To Set Up A Small Businness - IncParadise.Com My Review

I headed over to IncParadise.com and poked around for quite some time. As someone who has went through the initial process of incorporation I was looking to see how they introduced their service especially to a person newly looking at incorporation, how the site differentiated itself from others (why pick them?), how easily was information found, and how would incorporation help my business.

Upon visiting and checking out the home page and poking around as If I was new and looking for information in general on incorporation I found that it was a bit difficult to find the information I was looking for. I wish that the faq bar on the right side of the page was higher in the place of the picture and quote. This would place their excellent faqs in the top of the page and readily visible to new visitors. Once I found the faqs I feel that most questions a new person would have were answered very well.

The second thing I was looking for was differentiation and how the site was better or different than other options. On the front page they show the cost of their service against the cost of some of the most recognized names in incorporation. They also offer expedited service that in my view is a great option expecially for forming a Nevada LLC for real estate investment. I do this on a regular basis and being able to get it done 2 days is a great plus. They also will do corporations in all 50 states.

There are certain steps you should take once your corporation or LLC is set up. When you corporation is first set up you should have a meeting of directors and shareholders. You should adopt bylaws. When your LLC is set up you should adopt an Operating agreement. Sounds complicated? Don’t worry, IncParadise.com offers you free forms or they also can prepare the whole set of documents for only $20-$25. You can also get your own tax id using their free forms or they can do it for you for only $25. The free options, the low prices, and fast turnaround are all aspects that really differentiated the service from others.

Navigating around the site wasn't that difficult and the information seemed organized well. I had a few problems, as stated above, with the site layout. I feel the 3 sections, popular package, picture/quote, and document picture/links, should be below the compare prices, and the expedited shipping sections. This would place that information above the fold .

Even after having been through the incorporation process dozens of times, I actually learned a few things I hadn't known from browsing through the tons of information this site has. My overall rating of the site would be positive. The site is a good source for either a person new and just investigating incorporation and also for a person that has been through the process already.

If you have been considering incorporation or are curious how it could benefit your online businesses you should stop by IncParadise.com. Have you ever considered the option of incorporating your online businesses? Are you already incorporated? What was your experience?

Day 5 - Write Passionately! Great Advice Folks, Now How?

Welcome to Day 5 of my series Tools & Tips for Profitable Productive Blogging. Today I simply want to talk about motivation and what it means to me to write passionately. Read what I have to say and then leave your opinion. This is something that I have struggled and I believe that this post will help you avoid some of the pitfalls I and other bloggers have fallen into.

Write Passionately

How many times have I read that. I have read this on blogs from Kathmandu to Kalamazoo, which is actually where I went to college, sorry tangent. Well I struggled with this advice from the beginning of my blogging career. What exactly does writing passionately mean. Am I to stroke each post affectionately while telling it how beautiful I think it is? Does each post have to be top flight Pulitzer worthy content that I pour my heart and soul into? Can I ever just post about what I came across that day, week, or month? Finally after discussions with many bloggers I came to this conclusion about what it means to write passionately

Write FROM Passion

Now to me that makes more sense. What are you passionate about? Me? I love making money online. I can do it from any place and any time. If you do it right you can make money online while sipping cocktails in the Caribbean, while picking pumpkins with your kids, or pretty much any other activity you can think of. I love my family. I love my time. I love freedom of location. I really love, am passionate about, time with my family in lots of locations. That is where I draw my motivation from. That is where I blog from. That is why I am still blogging and why so many have given up. I draw my inspiration and motivation FROM my passion.

Do I write great copy? Lets just say I am working on it. Do I write insightful articles that spark a blogging epiphany in readers? On a very very good day maybe :). I do however write from my passion. I write because I have a passionate motivation to make money online instead of working my a-s off for 40 years for some other guy. Now I have a great job so don't get me wrong but I am working extremely hard to replace it, which is a pretty high mark. I am passionate about my family time and being able to have freedom of location for that time. Therefore I am passionate about making money online. And thus I write from my passion.

Where do you draw your inspiration from. What is your motivation for blogging. Is it to make money? What is your passion? What is it that drives you?

eDealFinder - More Coupons and Deals

Since I am of the "penny saved is a penny earned" mentality I have, over the last month or so, been bringing you information on where you can find some great discounts online. Today I would like to point you to eDealFinder online discount codes another good source for your favorite online merchants. I use discount codes for almost every online purchase. In fact on Friday last week I used a discount code to pick up 2 great seats to a Chicago Bulls game for the grand total of $13.23.

For all of you guys out there that may be in the doghouse or simply want to surprise the lady with a nice new gift they have ShoeBuy coupons, a great place to buy your lady shoes, and ProFlowers.com discounts, which, in my view, is the best place anywhere online or off to get flowers. If you are looking to make an online purchase check out eDealFinder first to get your ShoeBuy discount codes or codes for your favorite merchant. Now go earn some money through saving money on things you are going to buy anyway.

5 Days of Tools & Tips For More Productive Blogging - Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of my series Tools & Tips for Profitable Productive Blogging. Today I am going to talk about posting and a few ways to post in a more productive manner. This is something that I have struggled and I believe that the tips and tools in this post will help you avoid some of the pitfalls I and other bloggers have fallen into.

I have talked with quite a few bloggers over the course of the last several weeks and asked them lots of questions on their posting practices. I have tried to take some of the knowledge gleaned from these "pro" bloggers and meld it with my own practices. Here are my tips on how be productive in posting. I have implemented these practices and it has been a tremendous help.

Have A Specific Time For Writing & A Specific Output Goal

This is very key to being productive in your posting. I know when I started blogging, and really up until recently, I just posted whenever the time presented itself. I would find myself interrupted many times and it would end up taking longer to post than was really necessary.

Pick a time, say 1 hour or 1 1/2 hours, and put it aside for nothing but article writing. Try to pick a time where you will be able to work without interruption and distraction. You want to be able to focus totally on writing. Get a drink and a snack or whatever so that you are not getting up constantly during your time. Do whatever you can to eliminate distractions and things that will interrupt and steal your time. I also include article research in my writing time, as the time constraint will make you more efficient in that area as well. I will talk a bit more in a bit on how to streamline your research.

This practice allows you to write several days or a weeks worth of posts at one shot. Having posts written in advance is great when you are busy and don't have time to write. It is also nice that you can go back and proofread your posts several times and make small changes if necessary. This was one that I struggled with, and still do. I have started doing this much more consistently and have found that I can write more articles in less time by simple setting aside a specific time and set a specific goal on output.

The Importance of Post Tagging

If you look at the top blogs in your niche you will probably notice a pattern in the tags or categories they use for their posts. Also check Technorati and see which tags overlap with the popular tags at the popular blogs for your niche. Try and model your categories after the most common and popular ones. Obviously you will need to take into account your own posting style and topic selection but for the most part the categories are pretty much the same within a niche. This is a practice that I am still implementing as I am having to rename and reorganize some of my categories. The benefits of doing this go beyond the simple organization and navigation benefits for you and your readers, and extend into posting practices. Let me explain a bit more.

Use Blogrovr

Once again let me state that no links here are paid or affiliate links. This is all free and I am making no personal gain from this. What BlogRovr does for you is bring up, in a little bar on the side of your browser, posts from your favorite blogs on the topics you are browsing. For example, you are wanting to post on SEO, so you are browsing around your favorite blogs looking for information and inspiration for your article. BlogRovr will pop-up articles that pertain to the category of what you are reading and surfing.

Now if you have added your own blog as one of your favorites in BlogRovr, when you are beginning to write a post on a particular subject, BlogRovr will bring up previous articles from your blog on the same subject. This is nice for folks that have started to accumulate a lot of content. You can now see what other folks are saying about your topic, and also what you have said in the past about the topic. This allows you to link internally to your own relevant work, and link externally to other bloggers relevant work. This makes the process of researching for a post much faster and much more efficient. It also makes linking to other blog articles relevant to your topic much quicker and easier. BlogRovr uses tags as one way that it brings you content so that is why my first tip was important.

Schedule Your Posts For A Later Date

Now that you have streamlined your categories, cut your research time, and increased your writing productivity you need a productive way to get the posts on your blog without having to manually go in and post each day. You have written your articles in advance now you need to schedule the posting of those articles in advance.

For those of you using wordpress you simply check the box to edit the timestamp and then set the date and time you want the post to go live. For those of you using Blogger the process is just a bit more involved. Although it is easy to set up and once you do it is very to use. First things first. You will need to go into your blog's dashboard select the settings tab, then select email. Now you need to enter what you want for your Mail-to-blogger address and click save settings. See the picture below.
Now that you have set up your mail-to-blogger email address you will need to have a way to set up your posts to be emailed at specific times to that address. Now if your email program already allows you to do this then you are set. I use gmail which does not allow for email scheduling. I use a site called LetterMeLater.com. It is free to use and very easy. It allows you to use your current email address, great feature, and has a html editor. Thanks to Lori @ Blogging With Cents for first cluing me in on this.

Conclusion

Once you start following a practice like what I have outlined you can really cut down your blogging time. In about 1 to 2 hours you can write a weeks worth of posts, schedule those posts for set times throughout the week and you are pretty much done for the week. Obviously you can always throw in a current events posts or a post on a new development if you would like, but if not you can pretty much go a week hands off blogging. What are your article research practices. Do you write multiple posts at a time? Do you schedule your posts for a later date? What is your procedure when it comes to article writing. Do you already practice some of these tips? Did you find this article helpful? Get more profitable and productive information by subscribing to my feed or subscribing to my newsletter!.

50 Free Backlinks - Introducing SEO

Kassper is holding a contest in which he is giving out a lot of backlinks for anyone who writes a short post or a review of his site. All you have to do in the post is link ONCE to his blog using either Blogging Tips or Make Money Online and link ONCE to any of his posts. My favorite was his post on how to Get In The Google Top 10 - Post Title Optimization. In return for your post you will get more than 50 backlinks to your blog.

Now since this post is a bit late and he has already done 9 posts in the series, you won't get all 50 links if you get in today. Still thought the trade would be worth it though. 40 links in return for 2 isn't a bad trade at all.

Well head over to Kassper's blog and poke around a bit. He doesn't have a ton of posts but there are some really good ones in the mix. I am sure you will find his blog a profitable and productive read.

Bloggerwave - My Review

BloggerWave is a new paid posting program that I have recently joined. The concept is the same as other programs many of you are probably familiar with. Jobs are offered and then accepted by bloggers who then post about whatever it is the job requires. Usually it is a product, service, or website, that is looking for a review, or simply "buzz." The jobs offered will have a set amount that will be paid to the poster opon completion and approval of the post.

Bloggerwave has a very compact and efficient interface that, for me, loads quite a bit faster than others. The interface is tab based and is very easy to navigate. There are tabs for jobs, blogs, postings, profile and logout. This nice compact interface makes the system easy to use.

The Bloggerwave program has one feature that I see as a plus over the other paid-to-post programs, especially for newer bloggers. They allow you to add up to 5 blogs without first having to "qualify" each one with a certain number of posts. Your added blogs are given a star rating that is used to qualify each blog for job offerings.

One thing that I see as a drawback is the lack of a referral system of any kind. So yes while this initial review is sponsored by bloggerwave I am in no way trying to get you to signup, although I do feel it is a great program, for my own personal gain. Another issue for some may be that the company is based in Denmark. For me this isn't an issue as this is the world wide web we are on. I just thought some of you might be interested in this program as a way to increase your blog earnings. Head over to the site and give it a look I'm sure you will be happy with the program.

Mike's Money Making Mission - Is It Possible To Make Money From Free Blogs?
I am doing something a bit different this week and linking to two articles from one blog. The reason I am doing this is to show the potential that blogging has. Mike started his blogging journey right at a year ago and after looking at his most recent weekly earnings report I'll let you decide the answer to the opening question. A Total of $3899.22! That is a weekly total mind you and with free blogs. This is quite a jump from his first week of $0.84! Congrats Mike and here is to your continued success.

Michel Fortin dot Com - The Seven Deadly Sins of Website Copy
Probably one of the best articles on "copy" I've read in a while.

Blogging Tips - JPG, Gif, and PNG oh my.
A very nice summation of the dominant image formats used on the web and the why and when to use them.

Dosh Dosh - How to Influence Powerful Social Media Users for Traffic and Attention
A very in depth and informative article on how to gain favor with the movers and shakers in the social media arena. This article is full to the brim with information.

Success For Your Blog - 5 Things to do every week starting today
A great list. If you do these things on a regular basis it will go a long way to building your blog traffic.

Yaro @ Entrepreneur's Journey - How I Generate $1675 Per Month Passive Income From Buying Websites
A great article detailing how he purchased some sites and increased the income to a very nice passive income.

Daily Moolah - A Guide to Blog Marketing on Digital Point
This is one of the older articles on this weeks list, but I just came across this. As I have been on DP almost since I started blogging and have found it a great source for building relationships and traffic, I figured many of you would benefit from this information.

When Is Paint For Christmas A Good Idea?

I know it seems to early to be talking about Christmas. What can I say I love this time of year. As soon as the weather starts turning a bit cooler and the leaves start changing I start looking forward to the holidays. Well a few days ago I posted about something that I would love to have for Christmas. Today I am going to talk about something else I would love for Christmas. I also think it would be a pretty good gift for most any guy. What is this great idea? Paint!

Yep paint. The bonus is this paint comes pre-wrapped in bright multi-colored little plastic shells. These ready to go presents are a great little thing called paintballs. Now here is the problem. You can't get just paintballs as this just wouldn't be nearly as much fun and actually having some paintball guns from which to shoot them. Notice I said guns plural. No guy, or gal for that matter, should find himself on the paintball field of battle with only a single gun. No that just wouldn't do. I know when I go out I carry at least 2 sometimes 3. I always always carry both of my spyder paintball guns, I have a blue vs3 and an older vs1. Depending on which game we are playing and the competition, I quite often carry my 3rd gun an Ariakon pistol. Yep I'm a grown man running around in camo, with paintball guns, a vest(to hold all the extra CO2 tanks, paintballs, and grenades), a helmet, and a harness, all while shooting those bright colored little balls at other grown men, and the occasional lady, running around in similar garb.

You might be wondering what got me started even thinking about this topic tonight. Well I was doing my usual blog reading and browsing and stumbled on site called Ultimate Paintball. Pretty descriptive name if you ask me. Pretty much says what you should expect upon visiting. They had the top brands I am familiar with Tippmann, Spyder, Smart Parts plus many more brands of both guns and gear. They have everything I as a paintballer could want, yep guys even paint grenades, from vests and harnesses to gun cleaner kits.

One really nice feature of the site, especially when it comes to gift giving, is their paintball packages. These are complete packages that include everything a person would need to get started paintballing. For someone buying a gift, or just a new person starting out, these packages are an easy way to insure that all the necessary things are purchased. They have packages for just about every budget and level of player, from entry level Spyder packages to the high end Tippmann packages for those guys that take it even more serious than I.

The prices that I saw were great and like I said they have products for every budget. Another bonus is that they offer free shipping on orders over $200 bucks. Oh, and mom if you are reading this, I would love to the have the laser sight they have that would fit my Ariakon pistol. I would be so cool if I had the "red dot." Do you see the red dot? Sorry, inside joke. Now you can't say you don't have a great idea for a present.

5 Days of Tools & Tips For More Productive Blogging - Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of my series Tools & Tips for Profitable Productive Blogging. Today I am bringing you some great Browser Add-ons that will make your blogging life much easier. I have given a brief explanation of each program below. Once again none of these are affiliate links! I personally use all of these add-ons(except the IE ones) and really like how much easier they make blogging.

What are some add-ons that you use? Do you use ones that are not on this list that you feel should be? Share your experiences, good or bad, with these or any other add-ons. Well without further ado here they are....

Use FireFox Add-ons

ScribeFire
ScribeFire is a full-featured blog editor that integrates with your browser and lets you easily post to your blog. You can drag and drop formatted text from pages you are browsing, take notes, and post to your blog. This is one of my favorite add-ons and what I use to write and publish most of my articles.

ClipMarks
I love this add-on. It allows you to select portions of a website to bookmark or clip for later. I use this as I am browsing to select images and portions of pages with information pertinent to the topic I am researching. With Clipmarks, you can clip the best parts of web pages. Whether it's a paragraph, sentence, image or video, you can capture just the pieces you want without having to bookmark the entire page. You can save your clips privately or publicly, email them to friends, or post them directly to your blog. Our new ClipSearch feature lets you search based on matching keywords inside the content you clip, as well as any tags, titles and descriptions you add. In effect, by clipping the best parts of Web pages, you build a personal search engine for the things that matter to you.

BlogRovr
This is such an awesome little add-on. I use google reader to read my rss subscriptions and have them sorted and labeled, but I still find it hard to find pertinent information on a specific topic. With BlogRovR that information is at my fingertips. I downloaded my subscriptions to an opml file and then uploaded that to BlogRovR. Now whenever I am surfing I can see articles from the feeds I am subscribed to that are related to the topics of what I am reading. This is great when researching a topic for a post.

iMacros
Let me just say that the power of this little baby is awesome. Whatever you can do with Firefox, iMacros can automate it. You can use this as a form filler and password manager, data extraction and web scraping, social scripting(a powerful use of this), and more. For a small taste of the power of this tool read an article by the UberAffiliate about a little exercise in making bank with Facebook.

Firebug
Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page. Since I do most of my own coding this is a great tool to help when I am working on a page.

Add-ons For IE Users

ClipMarks for IE
See the explanation for ClipMarks above as this is the same it is just for IE.

iMacros for IE
See the explanation for iMacros above as this is the same it is just for IE.

RoboForm
This is what I used to use before I jumped to FireFox and started using iMacros. This is an automated form filler and will store your logins and passwords. It is encrypted so your information is safe. If iMacros isn't for you then this is an invaluable tool for filling out forms and logging into sites.

What are some add-ons that you use? Do you use ones that are not on this list that you feel should be? Share your experiences, good or bad, with these or any other add-ons.

5 Days of Tools & Tips For More Productive Blogging - Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of my series Tools & Tips for Profitable Productive Blogging. Today I am bringing you some great free software that will help keep your computer running smoothly and efficiently so you can blog at peak productivity. I have given a brief explanation of each program below. None of these are affiliate links! I personally use all of this software and find them to be among the best paid or free software available.

What are some tools you use to keep your computer running efficiently? Do you use any that you could recommend that aren't on the list? Is the software you are running Free or Paid? Do you Feel more safe using paid software or does it matter?

Keep Your Computer Working Efficiently

Virus and Spyware

Having good and up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software and a good firewall is critical for those of us spending lots of time on the web. There are lots of programs you could by but in my opinion the FREE programs that I use are much better than many of the commercial products often included with new PCs or sold in stores. Here is some great FREE software.

ZoneAlarm
The best free, and arguably better than many paid, firewall on the Internet. Like the AVG software below it really seams to run much more efficiently than some of the big name brand firewalls that cost a pretty penny. I have been running ZoneAlarm on my computers for years.

AVG Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti Rootkit
I use all three of these great Free tools from AVG. The Anti-virus, and spyware run for constant protection. The anit-rootkit I run weekly. The anti-virus and spyware programs don't bog down the computer like the big two anti-virus(mac and nort) or windows defender anti-spyware. The virus and spyware programs are updated pretty much daily.

Spybot Search & Destroy
I run this as an added layer of protection, and also really like the immunize feature. I usually run this once a week. They also offer a program called RunAlyzer that I talk about in the next section.

Utilities

Registry Cleaners
Having a clean efficient registry does wonders for your computer. Don't forget that backing up your registry before making changes is extremely important.
CCleaner
An overall PC cleanup tool. It cleans the registry, duplicate files, temporary files and more. I run this weekly.

Abexo Free Registry Cleaner
Another great cleaner. Not as robust as CC but it works great. It simply cleans the registry.

Start up
Having a clean and efficient start up is the best way to start any blogging session. Not only that, eliminating unwanted and unnecessary software from loading at start up will improve the efficiency of your machine. By not having tons of unnecessary programs running and being able to eliminate hard to delete programs from the taskbar does wonders for the speed and efficiency of our computer.

RunAlyzer

Over time programs that start or run each time you start windows can accumulate and really slow down your load time and also how your computer performs once windows has loaded. This great utility, sorta for advanced users(you don't want to fiddle too much unless you know a bit about what you are doing), allows you to identify all programs that load on start up and eliminate the ones that shouldn't be or you simply don't want. This helps to find things that have been forgotten and is also another line in the defense against spyware.

MSConfig
This little utility actually comes with windows. You can access it by selecting run from your start menu and then typing in msconfig. This will allow you to see what is loading at start up and remove the things that you don't want or that shouldn't be there. Not nearly as thorough or robust as RunAlyzer but it is included in Windows and works well for inexperienced user.

What are some tools you use to keep your computer running efficiently? Do you use any that you could recommend that aren't on the list? Is the software you are running Free or Paid? Do you Feel more safe using paid software or does it matter?

Has Your Man Been Bad? Send Him To His Garage!

I was in a discussion today on what to get my dad for Christmas. We went round and round about who was harder to buy for Guy or Girls. What do you think? I say girls hands down. I know I'm not that hard to buy for. Anyway back on topic. The reason for this post is just to give you a quick heads up what I feel would be great and certainly fits in that whole gifts for him category. I know it is something that I want. I have the epoxy stuff and it has it's drawbacks. What is it you ask?

Garage flooring! Huh? Yep garage flooring. I put down an epoxy floor coating and I like it okay. I have a friend though that put down a tiled garage floor and I like it much better. My floor is gray with specks in it. His? Chicago Bears Blue and Orange! I made a mess and ended up a mess when I coated my floor. These tiles interlock quickly and the look is seamless. They are supposed to be waterproof so we put them to the test and sure enough the tile was waterproof.

The floor is about a 1/4" thick or so and will support jacks for those of you that work on cars. My epoxy floor was supposed to also but it ended up with a chip the first time out. Anyway the nice thing about the tiles is that if for some reason one fails you can simply replace it. Another thing that I liked about it is that it was much quieter than my floor. I would think that it would be warmer than the concrete floor come winter as well.

Overall I think I like this better than my epoxy. I also think this would make a pretty cool and unique gift for the guy in your life. I 'm a guy and I know that if I got something like this I would love it. It would be even better if you walked me into the garage and already had it laid for me. Now that would be an awesome gift from my lady! My friend told me where he ordered it from and I went and checked out the site. They have a pretty good selection of styles and colors along with a selection of stuff for a guy's dream garage.

Well for friends and family that are reading this I would really like this for my garage. If you are wondering the inside dimensions of the garage are 26' x18'. Well back to Bears game.

45n5 Top 100 - I'm There! Technorati Top 10K - There Too!

Well I'm not actually in the top 100 but I did debut on the list page at #157. Not bad considering I don't have a page rank yet and I started a bit late to the Alexa game. What is this list you ask? Well, about a month or so ago Mark over at 45n5 published a list of the top 100 "make money online" type blogs. The list hit big on digg and got lots of link love and mentions from many of the top blogs he put on the list.

They also have a widget you can add, a banner, that will display your rank on the list. You can see mine in the sidebar. They also have another great feature called MoneyLinks. MoneyLinks is a feed of all the new posts of the blogs on the list. So this post will be on there shortly. This is a big plus for the blogs featured on the list.

I figured I probably don't toot my own horn enough so why not post the good stuff. My goal is to push hard to top 125 in the coming months. I think that getting a good page rank(if google ever gets around to it) will bounce me up pretty good. Until then it is all about driving traffic and building techno and alexa numbers.

In addition to being on the Top 100 list page, I am in the Technorati Top 10k club. My rank is actually in 7,000 range! I actually joined the top 10k club a while back but never got around to posting the news. I figured though since I was already posting the other I would include this as well. I do know that these will help, and have, in selling some ad space. Speaking of which October is Ad Space Sale Month! Check out my obscenely low prices. You won't be disappointed.

Deal Locker - A Coupon & Discount Blog - My Review

As many of you know I love to save money. I also love to make money too but that is for another article :). In fact just this afternoon I saved 30% on Chicago Bulls tickets using a coupon code. Well anyway, stumbling around the Internet the other day I came across a niche blog called Deal Locker. Deal Locker is a deals and coupon blog. The blog has a very nice clean looking template and is a wordpress blog. The blog has a ton of posts in categories that range from clothing and shoes to travel and everything in between. If you are looking for a coupon or discount code they probably have one for the product or the site you are looking for.

One nice feature on the blog is the add coupon feature. This allows the readers to submit new coupons or discount codes and helps keep things new and fresh. Trust me it is quite annoying when you are searching for a code and all the codes you find are expired. Another nice feature is the site search option. I did a search for printable, and was returned results for stores they had coupons for that were related to printing. I also was given results that were "printable" coupons. This was a very nice way to present the result. There are also related items in the sidebar as well.

The site seems to be a sort of social network for sharing online coupons and discounts for hundreds of different stores and sites. I really like the fact that coupons are rated by users so the more of you that visit and use the coupons and codes the better it becomes for everyone. This blog is packed with deals, free stuff, printable coupons, store give aways, freebies and deals that aren't just for online shopping.

My overall impression, as one who uses coupon codes often, is favorable and it is certainly a site that I will use again and again to find discounts, coupon codes, and online deals. Well there you have it - Deal Locker "because friends help friends get deals."
